My opinion -- free and worth every cent. Fire at will.

Recruiting C. Having "ranked" recruiting classes means nothing if they don't fill needs or flame out due to poor coaching.

Game Planning D-. First half results are awful. That means the game plan is awful.

Attitude C+. He says some good things but deep down I believe he's arrogant and thinks the Tennessee hillbillies don't deserve him.

Coaching D. His love affair with the read option regardless of personnel has led to failure.

Improvement C. Year over year improvement is partially due to cyclical changes in the SEC East.

Gimmicks B+. He is full of gimmicks but most have proven to be gimmicks. He gets A for effort, D for results.

Cliches A+. He does not leave a cliché on the bench. He is all over them.

Best Staff In America F. He is so low in self-esteem that he is afraid to hire quality coaches that he fears might be better than he is. Yet, he is arrogant and egotistical. It must be difficult to sleep.

Team Management C+. All the players have good shower habits and clean uniforms.

Future Incomplete. He is at a crossroads. If he does what he NEEDS to do, he might succeed. If he does what he WANTS to do, failure is a matter of time.

Flame away ... GO BIG ORANGE!

My question for the OP is this. How can Butch have low self esteem while at the same time be egotistical and arrogant?

Frequently, psychologically speaking, those attributes go hand in hand as a means of compensating.

Ignorance can be a spark to stimulate learning. Or, if coupled with arrogance it is the definition of a 24 carat, card-carrying a$$hole. Both are accompanied by low self-esteem. One improves, one fails.

If Dobbs plays like he did Saturday and we run the same type plays, he goes 6-6. He needs a quaterback change or simply run 90% and 10% off the playaction. I would test the waters on a different qb. This hurry up and punt offense is killing our defense. Its now time to control the time of possession and play some smart football. He has to adjust his mindset and play the game with the squad he has, which is something he has failed to do throughout his entire tenure here.

You mention psychological. The way some of you guys obsessively/compulsively rain or shine take cheap shots at our coach is borderline psychotic.

Game planning this year has been bad, but that is a relatively new development. Last year's starts to games were incredible and normally coming off a bye (including bowls) CBJs teams have looked very good...minus Saturday. So D- is way too harsh if we look at the 3.5 year tenure

Attitude - you can disagree but I truly believe this is where he wants to be. The pure emotion of the UGA game shows me something

Improvement - this year's team isn't an improvement over last year but think about the sh*t he inherited and how it has improved year over year. hell, his first season we still almost made a bowl even though there was virtually no talent on that team (minus an incredibly overrated OL)

Gimmicks - honestly the trick plays he has run have been pretty successful, see JJs passes and the jump pass vs. florida

Much like the obsessive need many here have to defend everything he does.

Look, we all love the program but see it's issues differently. A highly paid coach is where the buck stops. He is not sacrosanct.

I thinking you are bit off the mark here. I don't think this had anything to do with self-esteem. This is an issue of ego, control, and power. He isn't afraid of quality OC's, he just doesn't want them. Butch hired a sports administrator to be his OC, and more importantly, to be an empty suit. That allows him to keep the offense under his thumb and in his control.

Unfortunately for us and for Butch, his offense is horrible and fails to adjust to fit the skills of the plays he has. As a result, Butch will be fired either this year or next.

Disagree with most of ratings. Recruiting is a B+ I'd say. As to coaching and game management/planning, up until the last three games, though certainly some frustrations, you can't argue with the results, which is ultimately how a program is judged...going into TaM game, we had the second longest win streak in the country. Last three games, wheels have come off, so, in a vacuum, the ratings over these 3 games would be closer to correct. We're about to see if he's worth his $4MM+ salary. If he wins out, and we get back to playing sound football like last few years (penalties/turnovers), then the view at end of season, though not stellar, will be better. My biggest area of concern, whether it's Debord or Jones, is the horrible play calling during this stretch. If everyone is packing the box and spying Dobbs, seems a no brainer to show more creativity and aggressiveness. We haven't scored on the first two possessions all year that I remember. So, if they are going to be a bust in Q1, heave the ball long 3-4 times to open things up some. Stubbornly sticking to 3 qtr vanilla may do him in. Guess will find out soon enough...

I'd say he gets a B overall. We're not the dumpster fire we were when Dooley got here. But with this roster and the losses this year, it's pretty clear we're never going to be a playoff team barring an immaculate roster and/or great coordinators. If you want to be outback bowl or a similar one, he's your guy. But for me, he's a B.
