Coach Jones aware 'a lot of people didn't want me here at halftime'

Winning streaks used to span more than the end of one season and the start of another - at least the long streaks that were news. Maybe that says something about the state of football - that it's really hard to be totally dominant even when there is still no parity. The win at all costs isn't a healthy outlook for sports because it means the sporting aspect was left at the curb years ago, and we as a society are poorer for it. Football is a game; too bad we can't seem to remember that.

Poty imo

So Jones doesn't understand that we were booing because he didn't try to score again before going in to halftime?

Coach Jones is fully aware that there are misguided fans that will say and do things that are inappropriate. It is a negative component of his job that comes with the territory. Every coach has to deal with this segment of their own fan base. I just hope that TN doesn't come to be known as a school where this segment is made up of a higher percentage of the total fan base than at most other schools. Sometimes I worry that this is indeed the impression that people outside of our program have. It is not the impression that the vast majority of TN fans wish to give.

He's right. He handled it like he belongs here. That's fine by me. I asked for results and he provided them. That's good enough for me.

Do I think he's a championship coach? No. But I have enjoyed being wrong once this year already. I'd love to be wrong again.

He's doing what he was hired to do, albeit a year later than he should. I'm glad he beat Florida and look forward to the rest of the season.

It's not just Tennessee that is demanding results. It's every big time school.

your MO is nauseating.......its like a broken record of whining, babies crying and nails on a chalkboard all rolled into one

I literally said he was doing what he was supposed to do. So now we can't even give the guy a compliment?

I also said he handled it like he belongs here. What more could I have said to give him the proper respect he deserved?

Get the sand outta your panties, dude.

You don't control the board.

Lsu may come after butch with big money -- would he take that job??

No they are not. They fired a guy whose worst season was 8 wins. If they hire Butch couches will burn. Butch would do well there but they aren't dialing him.

CBJ may big the biggest conman alive. But I believe it when he says he wants to be here and he loves our program. Maybe that makes me a gullible fool.

I hope he is here winning for decades with high character guys.

I'm the biggest alive

The manner in which his team rallied and took care of business following the loss to Arkansas last year is a testament to the quality of coach we have, his character, and the character of the players he has recruited. He has said many times that successfully building a program is a process. His record here bears that out.

Many on this board stated pre-Florida that if we won this one they would accept losses for the balance of the season, that breaking the streak this year constitutes a successful season. Of course, that's nonsense. Those same folks will be b!tchin' next time the team is down a score or two...That's part of football in the SEC. But let's give the man the time and support he needs to get from point A to point B.

We don't need to fire Butch every time we experience a loss or don't like a series of calls that went bad. We don't need to hire a snot-nosed wunderkind like Kiffin or break the bank for a championship pedigree. And we don't need to hire a Saban. We are growing our own. And he'll be with us for a long time.

I hope you are right. Some criticize Butch, but compared to our last 3 head coaches, I am glad we have him. Dooley couldn't keep assistants, recruit, and was way too in love with the sound of his own voice. I will sacrifice accuracy by omitting the profanity, and just say Kiffin lacked integrity, loyalty, and morality and his departure spared us becoming the next SMU. And Fulmer, despite bringing us the only national championship in most of our lifetimes, got lazy in several ways, and was lost without David Cutcliffe.

Since a new AD should be in place this time next year, it should be a concern for Butch. If a coach is embattled, it is tempting for a new AD to bring in coaches they can call their own. If that new AD is Blackburn, I feel most of our established coaches, including Butch, will feel more secure.

I too feel Butch is building things up the right way, but I am starting to worry for him. He has been busting his ass for us since the day he got here, and is starting to show signs of heavy stress. He looks like a man in desperate need of a vacation on a island with umbrella drinks, beach side BBQ, windsurfing, deep sea fishing, and no smart phone. If he can swing it, he and the family needs to get on that plane as soon as the next NSD wraps up.

Well, Butch can think and say it wasn't must win after it was won, but had the second half mirrored the first? And the streak gone to 12?

Let's just say I am thankful for this win. Because trying to defend him to many on here would have been a nightmare. If the team is playing strongly, losses are easier to forgive and justify. But when you have lethargic performances, breakdowns in discipline, or poor game management? Not so much.

I think Butch is overreacting to the booing at the half. It was not hatred. If it was, he would have heard 30 or 40 idiots yelling things like, "Get the hell outta here, Butch." as he entered the tunnel. What he actually heard was negative feedback for sluggish play in the first half. Nothing more, nothing less. So, somebody tell him it wasn't personal. At least, not yet.

But he should understand the expectations. When he took the job, he embraced them. If the pressure is building on him, he needs to find an outlet to ease it before it affects his health. I discourage the Johnny Majors approach, but if his solution includes telling John Adams to go to Hell? I want a ring side seat to that!

They were anything but sluggish in the first half. They weren't executing well. We definitely had the opportunities to score. I think the mental block of it being Florida made the guys really tight the first half of the game. The thing to keep in mind is it only takes one play. One play to spark the fire. It was none more evident than the 8 minute mark of the 3rd quarter.

Is it weird that I read this with an English accent in my mind?

Admitting this is worse than the actual booing....they got the ball on their own 10 with around :40 on the clock.....this isn't Madden 2016

Lsu has absolutely zero interest in jones. You realize he has been put in the same category as the coach they just fired for clock mismanagement and poor in game decisions?

buTch knew he was taking over a complete dumpster fire here but he had the courage and conviction to tackle the task.

He knew the player roster had to be totally rebuilt year by year for several years to accumulate top starting players as well as top younger players to build and coach up good depth that would become top starters as others left or graduated.

From day 1 he's busted his butt attempting to do everything the right ways.

He's far ahead of where I thought he would be at this point because of his great recruiting and our coaches coaching up the kids the right ways.

I expected a 5 or 6 year total rebuild but our recruiting has been far better than most of us expected.

buTch loves our Southern way of life, he loves our super passionate fanbase, he loves everything about Tennessee including Honoring our most sacred Traditions and former VFL players.

He's worked his butt off to finally make it to a top school in the SEC where he knows expectations are the highest and Championships are expected.

This is now his team. his footVol program and he's built it step by step his way with his type of players and he really loves every single player we have.

He wants only what's best for every player and for our program and he'll keep working tirelessly to do his best to keep us at the top once he gets us there.

He knows we expect Championships every year even those that's not realistic but he's a very passionate guys and he hates to lose as much as we hate it.

This is his baby and he's NOT going to leave us unless we force him to leave.

Look at the QB's, RB's, WR's and D players we already have developing for the future.

buTch is building for now but also for the long term success for us.

Next year we're going to have a new QB that can sling the ball all over the field whenever needed and still have great running and a stout D.

Somehow he was able to keep AK, Sutton and JRM for another year and that was as huge as getting some top recruits that would have so much to learn.

It's a very safe bet that buTch wants a SEC and a National Championship as badly as any Tennessee fan in the world wants those things.

He wants us consistently in those conversations every single year and that's how he's trying to build our Team.

Just 3 short years ago we were a joke of a program and we were all in misery.

Already we're 4-0 and just beat floriDUHHH to end that horrid streak and most everyone is now talking great things going on at Tennessee.

Relax folks, enjoy this earlier than expected rebuild and success and ride the Big Orange Train to see how far we can go.

We definately CAN become a very special Team especially if we can play all 60 minutes the way we played the 2nd half to totally destroy floriDUHHH.

Building a Champion WIN by WIN...VFL...GBO!!!

It definitely happened. It was pitiful. I was 30 rows up but saw it.

Makes you wonder what would be going through the #1 high school recruits head if he saw the incident? I'd read that he would be there and was leaning to UT. We need 2 more great running backs when Hurd and Kamara leave next year. We don't need that kind of fan.

Anyone who says they knew we had it in the bag at halftime is a liar. I have not been a Butch Jones fan...I'll admit that. I was thinking at halftime that he was going to have to make some changes to the BSIA...immediately. What actually happened was COACH Butch Jones took advantage of halftime and "inspired" his players and coordinators to perform to their potential. It was awesome to see just how good we could be. Great job Coach Jones...and Great job VOLS!!!!
