Coach Gillespie: We hit it out of the park with 2017 RBs

So I guess you consider John Kelly woopty doo? He was a 3 star. I'm amazed at some of you who judge people by stars.

Correct. Judging classes by star rating is just nonsense.

Signed,

The 3 teams (Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State) that have recruited the best over the last 5 years and have won 4 of the last 5 national titles and 3 of the top 4 winning percentages

PS- I'm excited about Kelly and think he's gonna be very, very good this year. But statistically he's the exception and not the rule, he needs help and we're just not gonna have enough top players around him for us to win championships.

Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, and UNC consistently get the top recruits in BB. They don't win all the Natty's. It is harder in football, you need 40 top players. Clemson did it this year, Auburn did it a couple of years ago. We can do it too. Stay positive and you will be happier.

Ya see, this is the damn problem with this program and staff! Wow, 2 three star recruits....woopty doo! You call that a HR?? lol No, getting Cam Akers along with Chandler would have "hit it out of the park". Again, this program accepts mediocrity and actually tries hyping it up like we're clueless idiots.

I mean john kelly was a 3star, maybe Coach G is just very good at identifying the talent in RB's over just *'s?

Of course it's harder, you need many, many more players in football, which is why recruiting matters even more......the 3 teams I mentioned all win more games and more titles because they have more of the best players. We need many more top/elite players than either of the last 2 classes have given us to compete, especially with Butch's and his staff's apparent deficiency in player development.

I'm all good with positive when there's reason for positivity. There's not much to be positive about with this class as a whole.....some really nice players, some players that are likely diamonds in the rough, some projects and some guys that just will never be able to compete at the highest levels.....just not enough top talent to get to Atlanta and/or have any chance to win if we somehow get there imo.

Aw, come on man, you are being hard on your self! I wouldn't say you are clueless. I would say more like classless! kinda like me.

The Vols staff may have hit it out of the park in their own estimations but it looks like the rest of the SEC big boys clubbed them like baby seals.

Letting this much talent walk out of state is borderline Dooleyesque.

Question for you. What team not named Alabama in the SEC "clubbed them like baby seals" at the running back position?

I will hang up and listen.

Butch left the gate open on that fence around Tennessee

What exactly are you hanging up? Your keyboard?

I am not an IT guru but I don't think that's how computers work.

Overall rankings says they are 7th in the SEC today on Rivals and 6th according to 24/7 .

Nitpick the post all you want, that isn't very good.

Oh my bad, the thread title specifically says Coach Gillespie and the RB's. Total misunderstanding on my part...I didn't realize you were using this thread to bash Butch in general.

It's ok that you didn't get the reference. Not being an IT guru and all.

Upon actually reading the post, I believe he specifically referred to the RB recruits.

But hey, I don't want to ruin your terrible day. Carry on. No reason to live and so forth.

what if Cam Akers is a bust? You guys look at stars and thinks that is what makes a player.

I'll tell you "what if". It is Butch's fault for either not knowing he was not really a 5* or he didn't coach him up to a 6* (don't let reality get in the way).

My opinion (worth little and less to others) is to support the team to whatever outcome this year. If we don't win the East, have a list of realistic replacements in hand. If no one on that list has proven to be a likely SEC Champ HC and will come to UT, stay the course. If you have that coach and the money, make the move.

It is said that one definition of happiness is when one's reality meets or exceeds one's expectations. Based on that definition there is little reason to wonder why Volnation is not happy. 2016 was supposed to be the year on the field with all the returning talent and 2017 was supposed to be the year on the recruiting trail with all the in state talent.

Well Clemson had a great year...at least they wear orange too :whistling::banghead2:
