Coach Fulmer is OUR coach...

I haven't really chimed in on this thread yet, but in truth Coach Fulmer is not "our" coach. Coach Fulmer is however the coach of the football team of "our" university (assuming you somehow support UTK as a donor, taxpayer, student, etc.); and, therefore, "our" employee. He owes us. Not the other way around.

The '50s and '60s were no picnic a lot of years either.

Still if you go back to about 1925, Tennessee is the winningest college football program in America.

Before that the schools with the most money won the most games because they had semi-pro players who couldn't be called student athletes other than tongue in cheek. That's why Vandy and other wealthy private schools ruled the roost.

Your welcome. Your constant carping indicates to me you are a bottom feeder.:snoring:

Right on the money honey!!:good!:

It's no joke, we ain't broke!!!!

(I will admit to anyone though, we seem rather bent out of shape at the moment.):vava:

(BTW, holding WSU to 9 was a heck of a lot better than seeing them hang 52 on the scoreboard, no doubt about that!!)

"Your welcome"? Why, thank you for giving me a welcome. You're welcome, too.

Why desire to succeed when you can simply be satisfied with mediocrity and be much happier, correct?

What does he owe you other than to do the best he can??

until otherwise directed!
That's right so LETS rally behind him and our team.
WE WILL BEAT UGlyA!!!!

VOLS FOREVER!!!VOL DYNASTY!!!!:rock::rock::rock:

Yeah, let's all get rah rah sis kum bah for phil fulmer. Why? Well, because he's our coach, of course. Who cares about how relevant we are as a program, or how many games we win. Loyalty to the current coach is the most important thing.

I would be willing to guess that the author of the post I'm replying to is rarely -- if ever -- described by his friends as a "thinker"

NO!

What about when the best he can isn't good enough? He's making $3 million a year. He should be held to some sort of standard.

I don't think he's doing the best he can and if he is then it's obviously not good enough anymore. Of course you are free to disagree, but I'd rather have a head coach who works to win championships, not rest on his laurels and pad his stats.

well...

like it or not, college football is a huge business now.

from line workers to middle management all the way to the top, (successful) businesses have goals, performance standards, and evaluations.

do you think the CEO of IBM or GE or Walmart is OK just doing the best that he can, regardless of how the company performs in the marketplace?

Why? Because they stand behind the Vols? Because they don't want the Vols to lose this week? Because they don't agree with you?

If you don't think Coach Fulmer's doing a good job, that's fine. The world is full of opinions and you're welcome to yours. I just don't understand those of you who feel the need to openly bash our coach and our team. It doesn't help us but--as we learned with Nunez-- it can actually hurt us.

I love the Vols. I always will. I also happen to believe in Coach Fulmer. However, if the University decided to let him go, I'm not going to turn on UT. I'm not going to boo the new head coach. I'll stand behind him and pull for my team, my players and my University.

If that gets me on your ignore list, then I'll be proud to be there.

Go Big Orange...orange and white till I die !!

Me too. Die-hard Vol fan.

The main difference between me and the "Fulmerites" is that I cheer for the Vols, and want what's best for Tennessee football. Personally, I could care less who the head coach is, as long as he wins, and wins clean.

I put UT football above whoever happens to be their head coach. That way, when a head coach has lost his grip, I have no trouble seeing it.

There's "Orange & White", and then there's "Orange & Blind".

I can see just fine.

Go Vols.

Sometimes I don't think we're being fair with Fulmer.

After all, if not for youth, injuries, refs, perfect storms, angry football gods, lack of magic dust, lack of crystal balls, not crossing your T's and dotting your I's, ups and downs, miscommunications, inconsistencies, lying recruits, losing to eventual national champions, players playing for the name on their backs, a couple of missed field goals, a couple of special teams plays, fans booing who have probably never played the game, players not doing what they're told, and pucker factor we might have an SEC Championship in the last 10 years.

The Big Orange is no longer so big. Tennessee hasn’t won an SEC title since 1998, hasn’t finished in the Associated Press Top 10 since 2001 and hasn’t beaten Florida since 2004

I think fulmers here at least 2 more years and coach the guys on the roster now. at some point this offseason he will anounce it and tennesse will conduct a year long coach in waiting process. this works out best for everybody. fulmer gets to honor his pledge to coach the players that came here because of him, tennessee doesnt have to rush to find a coach and can be extensive as they want to be in the search, and there will keep continuanity in the program and recruiting wont take a hit either.

With that scenario, it is all about Fulmer. If that happens this program will be in the ash heap of the SEC.

The reality is in this new era of business and SEC football, it is about the overall status of your program and how you rank against the competition. And the answer is that this program is not competitive. Look at your record against Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, and LSU. We have a second tier program. Those programs have left us in the dust. All of them have BCS bowl games and we can not even get a sniff at one.

The fan base is completely fractured and it will only get worse with time. Another year of this and we will be known only as a basketball school. It will be very difficult to get this program back to the top due to the superior coaching and excitement around the other programs in this conference.

These days even Jerry Green might be right in advising the fans to go to Wal-Mart. You can see better football on the HD's in the electronic department than you can see in Neyland Stadium.

I say it's time for a change. They way we have played in the past several years says that we are not as good as most of the other teams in the SEC. I felt the same way last year when we had a bad start.

Of course I change my tune when we slapped Georgia around. Then we won the east and I figured we were headed back up the food chain.

So far this season has been pretty bad. No matter whether you like Fulmer or not you have to admit that we have look like a 2nd rate team.

Phil can do one thing to change my mind again and make all his detractors shut up. He can start winning football games. That's his job after all.
