First I didnt suggest playing him at QB (I havent a clue where you got that)..I did say I watched him in high school and Nick Saban offered him a scholarship at QB..JJ was rated the 9th best QB in the nation...One spot in front of #10 Drew Lock (MO) #11 Jake Browning (WA) #13 Sam Darnold (USC) ,,,Obviously you think you know more than Nick Saban about one's abilities..No disrepect but I will take Saban's evaluation over yours..JG was a top 100 player coming out.
Brian Maurer ranked number 5 at the Elite 11. So I'm not sure what you mean by highest rated
Jennings is our best WR.
NO to that suggestion of playing him at QB.
Yeah he screwed up right there but his reaction after the play is what makes me think he won’t do that again. He knew he messed up and I bet he won’t make that mistake again.
Unlike Warrior who keeps making the same damn mistake over and over and over
Exactly. Folks who are saying Chaney is a simpleton or that Pruitt/Fulmer are tying Chaney's hands are silly. Look at what Chaney did at Pitt with our reject. Look at his offenses at UGA. He had TOOLS to use and the OL to protect them and open holes for them. He had a QB that could make the reads/throws. He simply does not have that with JG.
That brings me to the next reality. As much as fans like to sit back and believe that one of our backups should be starting next week, these coaches see them every day in practice. Just like they know what JG can do, they're also very aware of what the backups can do. If they thought one of those kids was ready, he'd be given the opportunity. There's a reason they took a transfer QB for next season to go with the two backups and the stud coming in this next class.
Of all the positions on the field, the learning curve at QB is the most severe. The playbook, the reads, the speed of the game from HS to D1, etc. It's a tough jump. Yes, there are kids that do it, but it's not the norm. Apparently, the ones we have on the roster are not ready or are not better options than JG at this point. Just don't understand why fans always jump to the conclusion that the coaches aren't playing the players who give us the best chance of winning. You do the best you can with the best you've got. Right now, unfortunately, that's JG.
The defense doesn't get enough criticism. Everyone rushes to blame JG for everything and I get it, when he messed up it is obvious but we had players all over the field not lined up right, out of position it just plain not on the right page. This happened all day on offense and on defense, it was very obvious on defense.
I'm not sure what the answer is here. JG is the starter, the back ups are young and unproven. I just don't think this team is very good from top to bottom. I think Pruitt knows all about reloading and what a good football team should look like. I'm just not sure he knows how to build one. He can learn and he's going to have to quickly. He made a mistake by not prioritizing the talent needed on the defensive line and rushing linebacker. We don't have it and won't next year either at far as depth is concerned.
The offensive line will be fine in a year or two. The defensive line is a concern. QB is a concern as well, it's time to let a young guy take his lumps and see how he responds. We may be able to build some momentum going into the last quarter of the season for next year.
There are many other issues with the defense, they are lost in coverage and assignments, they can't even get linef up correctlyThe defense is simply a result of having little to no pressure up front . If you are playing a 2gap or a 1 gap ( nose ) 34 , the knuckle down guys have to tie blockers so the LBs can run free. That's just not happening. Because of this the LBs that are in coverage are in coverage for far to long , they are not meant to be covering down field . The pressure from the front 7 should materialize in 2 to 2.5 seconds. We are not even close. The only time we get pressure is when we blitz . This is dangerous . The secondary cannot be expected to hold coverage for 4 and 5 seconds. We just don't have the horses for this defense . There is no play calling or game planning that will fix it , unless you can magically get the front 3 to produce.
The solutions is to sustain drives on offense and keep the defense off the field. JG is not capable of this . Maybe he developes or maybe someone else gets a shot ? That would be the only answer
THIS!!!As much as the fans hate Pruitt now, the players he's brought in seem to be among the best ones on the team. They are getting developed. They are very young, however.
I thought Pruitt responded very well to the Ga State loss, but he can't make Nigel Warrior tackle or force JG not to throw too late. This game was lost due to execution, not coaching.
Taylor running downfield to cover the WR should have never been the call. Should have been in a deep zone cover 2 and keep the play in front of you. In this regard Pruitt and Butch run the same coverage late in the game and pay the price...
Yep. Late on several throws one of which was a surefire TD to Jennings. Still not “feeling” the game. Had plenty of time. One of his best throws was when he looked left and came back right. He hasn’t done that and stares down plays.Spot on
He looks like a deer in headlights with no leadership who just got off the short bus
I think you have to take this week's game to figure out the QB situation
If you remember when we sprung Dobbs on Bama, he immediately started moving the ball because they didn’t know anything about his skill set. I think it’s time a QB change - how can it hurt at this point!
GO VOLS!!!
