I didnt listen to the show, but I do believe Trey will try again. Now, that doesnt mean we wont see a repeat of this year and he get pulled off the field again, which is likely to happen.

But if the doctors can get him to a point where its low risk to try in the beginning, and keep a very close eye on him, just as they did this season, I see no reason why you dont try one more time. He will be under strict supervision for sure.

Then again they may try to treat him and come to the conclusion that he should end is career now. We shall see.

Oh cool, I’m not a “real fan” now because I’m unfamiliar with some yahoo who talks on the radio.
Well, it's hard to understand how a real TN fan who has been a fan for several years would not know who he is. The answer that question for us.

This thread, wow...I get that Trey Smith was the best freshmen O lineman in the nation last year (yes even better than my man Andrew Thomas) but some of y'all do not seem to grasp the severity of his situation. Blood clots are dangerous when they are present in the extremities (legs and arms) but when they break away and travel to the lungs...it can be fatal. I have had patients throw a clot and get a pulmonary embolism and that's it...there is NOTHING medical professionals can do. Unless his docs can get the clotting under control without medication, his playing days are over...can't play a contact sport on blood thinners.

Has nothing to do with injuries. He has a medical condition that makes playing football dangerous for him. Hence the question about you landscaping under a rock. Might also be responsible for his decline in play. But you keep on bashing a kid that has put his health in jeopardy for your entertainment.
I agree, he missed a lot of practice in the spring and most of fall if I remember correctly. He didnt suddenly forget how to block and run people over. Learning a new system and not being able to practice which leads to basically a "cram" session for a week before the season starts led to him underachieving this season. All that and not being in "football" shape due to the limitations because of his medical condition before he was cleared.

I really hope so. But I’ve got a bad feeling about him. The clots coming back seems like a very serious problem. I’m not a doctor.

Don’t know you, but I know Doug. He truly cares about UT football and it shows. Whether you like him or not is irrelevant and boring.

Know him as well. He does love UT and a really nice man. His son Tate is a good guy too. Really knows Tennessee high school football.

Let’s see....Coach Mathews - former SEC coordinator and recruit analysis for several SEC schools- or a few angry Vols fans venting their frustration ...whose opinions do I trust more....gosh it’s a tough decision....😂😂. Not to mention Doug is a well respected gentleman...

Actually any one of us could drop stone cold dead overnight with a clot or PE and never have had one symptom. I agree it’s about as serious a medical condition as one can have however I do think there’s a possibility Trey could return. You’re correct though...he MUST keep them away without meds or it’s over as far as football or wrestling goes...

Tennessean completely trashed VOL program this morning. Van der built making
Huge statement in middle Tennessee recruiting. VOLS attendance drops to
Record lows next year Fulmer and Pruitt go on sizzling hot seat.

If Fulmer and JP go on any chopping block before 2021 it is a mistake. This mess will take some time.

IF....Mathews is correct, it still concerns me greatly for Trey’s health. This is serious stuff, but guess we leave it to his specialists and hope he gets good guidance. The kid’s life is worth way more than football.

While it would be great to have Trey back, the reality, without a cure, it most likely will be a recurring and career ending issue. Which means, hard line, he isn't the offensive lineman we need next year. He won't be in shape come season start, he'll miss most practices, and we'll hear the same thing about him as before, he's working hard, etc etc. Then it'll happen again, he'll be gone and it'll be a scramble to replace and adjust to his loss. Turn him into a coach or let him go to school and get whatever degree he desires. I just don't, barring a complete fix/cure, see him as the guy we need.

Just heard him optimistically running down our front four, including Brandon Kennedy and Trey. He never mentioned the basis for his assertion.
I listened as well. I want some of what he’s smoking. How the hell does he get excited about Johnson, carvin and Kennedy coming back in oline and then say in the same sentence that Jamir Johnson is too small. No **** he’s small but played better than the other three. And he gushed over Bituli and DKJ. They are so slow it hurts.

So a position coach from 30 years ago and a Vandy grad has a captivated audience of our fanbase. Sounds about right.
He coached along time under Fulmer. Coached a lot of good players and recruited a lot of good players. Never asked me for money LIkes ut as much as the rest of us. Did lead the sec in rushing playing at vandy

Does anyone know about Trey's trip to Boston last week? Maybe Doug knows something we don't, since he and Fulmer are close.

Yeah, he has no earthly idea if he will he or not. But, because he’s pushing rainbows and unicorns yet again this morning about how great we’re gonna he next year, he has to say that Trey will be back.

He’s gone from being a good source of information for Tennessee football, to an absolute pollyanish comedy routine.

He just said, “we’re gonna be REALLY good next year at guard and center”, because they have the size, strength and smarts, and “there’s no doubt/debate about that”.

He’s lost his mind. He’s now a 100% complete mouthpiece who’s destroyed his credibility. Perhaps he’s just getting old and can no longer think for himself.
I'll take Doug Mathews' opinion over yours every time. Fans like you suck the joy right out of any room.

In fairness, Doug didn't state, "Trey would be back." Doug was speaking to the O-Line next year and included Trey Smith saying he will most likely play OG next season. Doug also said the C and OG positions are more important in college football than the tackles unless your offense passes a lot such as Washington. (I think Washington was the example he used but it may have been Washington State.)

I took it as more of a, Trey is part of the team until/if we are told he is no longer part of the team.
You heard the same broadcast I did. Not sure what some folks were listening to.

Please tone down the science. It's getting in the way of mediocre football.
