Coach Doug Mathews On Now

If you hadn't already recognized this like over a year ago, that is your problem. This is why, for all of us who have been realistically looking ahead, we have circled 2016 as the year we get consistently good.

These roster shortcomings are not Butch's doing. You can blame Dooley for the deficiencies in the roster, especially the O line.

And every team we face will seriously challenge this offensive line on every play. Me must have 5 SEC caliber o-linemen before this offense takes off. Had it last year, but individualism and suppressed injuries on the line, along with average to poor QB play with below average receivers, badly hampered their performance.

It's becoming clearer as to how deeply Dooley individually decimated this program...

Way too many sacks. Too many penalties on offense. No excuse.

The sacks are on play calling in my opinion. You have to call plays that put your QB in winnable situations. If you know you have a weak O line, you don't call a slow developing play and keep your QB in the pocket.

Oregon has a terrible O line this year too. The difference they call plays that mimic their teams strengths, not that exaggerate their weaknesses.

In a die hard fan since mid 80's and I must say the past 5 plus years have been the hardest to be apart of. And getting on volnation makes ut that much harder because of all the negativity. With Dooley I understood because he was an idiot. By I think cbj knows football,we have just had some bad luck. If we are not winning nine plus games a year after year 3 or 4 then it is logical to have rants and bs. But cbj kids are 18 years old and giving it all they got. Give them couple more painful years. I love our fan base and seeing all the negativity tells me 2 things. One we are very passionate and want to win badly and two CDd really screwed our program over.

I doubt Butch fires anyone. He is about loyalty. I do t want to see anyone get fired, I want this coaching staff to make adjustments in their style. I would love to see them go back from the beginning of the season and mark every successful play we've run, and every unsuccessful play we've run. Then have them throw out the ones that have never worked, and keep the ones that have. Then run the successful plays over and over, mixing in a few new ones here and there until find more plays that work.

It appears they are afraid to run a play they had success with more than once in a game. I guess he's afraid of being predictable. But after watching the read option get stuffed for the 10th time Saturday, I don't think predictability is the issue. If you're going to be predictable, be predictable by calling plays that have been successful in the past.

Every player has a specific assignment on each play and I agree with you about analyzing what works and WHY it works. Is it because it depends on what an individual player does well? If so, use that an a different play. That is not being done, imo.

GO VOLS!!!

I agree our defense is improving greatly as is our special teams. Unfortunately nothing else is. I just want Mahoney and Bajakian fired. I really like Butch

Jones' act is wearing thin with me and inability to get things done on Saturdays is unacceptable. He's not remotely a good Gameday coach.

I hate to keep bringing it up but Mathews is right. The pass calls on 2nd and short absolutely cost us the game. All we had to do is protect the ball and eat clock. Stupid.

Coach Mathews says game plan did not change in the 3rd quarter. Turn over in their scoring zone killed us. Only thing Offensive coaches should have been coaching then was not to turn the ball over when up by two scores. Should have just ran it and punted. Bad coaching here. Pass play should have never been called. Needed to slow it down.

Yeah, it was obvious he was frustrated with Bajakian for sure. Critical of his play calling late in the game when he threw the ball deep in our own territory. Said it was foolish to believe we could give Worley 4-5 seconds to throw and that led to the fumble by Worley. Should've protected the ball, called plays to do so, let our defense win the game.

Also pointed out that there was absolutely no reason to throw the seam route pass that was intercepted on the last drive. We were on Florida's 48, IT WAS FIRST DOWN, we only need a field goal, there was a minute left and we only needed about 20 more yards to comfortably be in position for the game winning fg.

KBVol and I seeing eye to eye. Never thought I'd see the day.

…didn't listen to Doug Matthews and I haven't read this thread yet, but let me guess…did he blame everyone except the coaches?

No. He is still high on Jones, was high on Jancek....was very critical of Bajakian, and by extension Jones too to some extent, and his poor playcalling and offensive management/decisions late in the game.

With all due respect to CDM...and due to the link being posted...I listened to his show/observations...

HE summed up the same things most of us here have voiced...

It's just "The Greatest Coaches in College Football" that don't see what the rest of us (including CDM) see...

Go figure....

It will be my personal mission in life to bump your old posts when the wins come.

I've been known to beat a dead horse

Count should go back to his usercp and read the last 3-4 pages of his posts, one after another. If he can read those and doesn't think he's being one of the whiniest beatches in VN history, maybe he just has to do it as part of a self medication deal.
As a matter of fact, VN posters should do that to look at others and themselves.
It can be enlightening, unless of course you'd rather stay in the dark, as many prolly do.

You were pretty upset about the offense last night

What changed your mind?
