Run the wishbone with Holiday, won’t make a difference in the outcome. The only question is , does he know enough of the play book to move the offense against Bama"s defense? I don't know and I am not sure the coaches know. As much as I think HB has the most talent, I don't want to set his progress back if he isn't yet ready. Maurer may have been throw to the wolves before he was ready and we see what happened to him. I do think it is dangerous to play only one QB 99% of the time, which is what we have done the last 2-3 years. If we are fortunate to sign a couple of good QBs for 2021, and if either are EEs, and if we have some sort of Spring practice, we need to make sure they get enough reps to be prepared to play next year. If would be an advantage to have a QB who can challenge the defense with the run option.I also realize that one needs some depth to do that.
Eric Gray is literally averaging 5.0 yards per carry this season...Regarding our running backs, they’re, AT BEST, glorified 3rd down change of pace backs. None, all 3 that we’ve seen this year, is remotely a reliable, stud rb capable of breaking off long game changing runs, or wearing down a defense with 20-25 carries at 5 years a pop. I’ve never seen, ever, a running back not only go down so easily, but get knocked back and sideways as much as Eric Gray does. He has great lateral movement and cutting ability, but that’s it. Chandler is who he is, which is average to below average who can’t pass protect. True freshman Smalls actually runs with far more power than either of these guys.
Said it's not a matter of if, but when do you make the change from JG. Do you do it before Bama or after? He thinks that is probably Pruitt's mindset this morning.
Before Bama and you basically get 3 weeks to prep him for Arkansas, but you throw him to the wolves. After Bama you only get two weeks but you don't put him in before he's ready. Says there is simply no way we can beat Bama and talking about what we would need to do to win is futile. It isn't happening in any universe.
He thinks Shrout is done too. It should be Bailey and get him ready for the future.
