First thing that came to mind, Nick Saban. Brutal honesty, demanding, and tough too please. A no none sense coach is what a young, inexperienced team - in the physicality that is the SEC - needs. And at this point in Spring practice, we can't expect CDD to be overly effusive with praise because if the team is playing badly now imagine what Alabama or even Arkansis could do to them. Thus, CDD must hammer out the problems now.

Umm did anybody read the part on go volsxtra where it was talking about Poole and O'neil. 2012 is looking better everyday. Cause when the turtle leaves and they let the two jack rabbits play along with our line it is going to be straight up awesome.

Its all about motivation... Who has the desire to improve when your always gettin that pat on the back... He knows we have a long way to go before were where we need to be... This is all mind games and strategy to push them as far as he can... Plus most of what he said is plausible by just looking at stats...

I know its early and we are young and will correct a lot of the mistakes but some of our SEC bretheren are getting praise from their coach at the first scrimmage.

Hehehe, maybe. His "this is year one, last year was year zero" comment was VERY smart! It's like it instantly bought himself an extra year, just with that comment.

Dooley is no sunshine pumper. Let's just hope that it gets fixed eventually so he doesn't have to repeat himself a lot.

I don't think he expected the media to come back at him like they did. You can tell he started backing off that initial comment as the interview goes on.

I think CDD is working on many levels here. He's a very smart guy and he knows that one of the main things he needs to do is manage expectations with the media and the fans. Also he needs to motivate his players to be better, not just better but to be great. If you always expect something better from your players than they will work harder to try and prove themselves. Not all players respond to this type of motivation, hence the players that have left the program. But what he is left with a players who want to do better, who want to succeed not just in CDD eyes but in their own eyes. They will always strive to be better than what they are today. This in my opinion will ultimately win us SEC championships and another National Championship one day under CDD.
