If there is ever a P5 AD with >$4.5 million/year to spend on a football coach, who looks at CBJ's body of work at UT and says "I want me some of that", then we'll all find out whether that theory is true or not.

Supposedly. I'm not sure where that computes to the original statement.

Had Jones decided he liked the Rockies instead of the Smokies I suppose we would have fielded the first coach-less team in school history.

Seriously, how much more did we pay versus what Colorado was willing to pay?

I haven't observed the overt religiosity from Jones either. Fulmer used to force feed it to his players with his post game speech mandatory prayers. At least it looked mandatory on the video clips.

When we hired Butch we got a better coach then we deserved. Many so called better coaches passed on our dumpster fire.

Butch has done pretty well with a mid major budget. With the financials improving so is the staff. You can see the staff upgrade paying off in recruiting this year.

If Butch and staff can win an east championship in the next two years our football program could takeoff in a big way. $$$, Even better staff and depth in high quality recruits. The kind of coaching and depth that brings championships.

All while getting it done off the field. You can't ask for more. I think our AD owes him a vote of confidence and another year on his contract. I hope our new AD hasn't lost track of what Butch started with here.

I am enjoying the slow accent. When you hit the top there is only one way to go. Thanks Butch

Okay, I was about to challenge Beecher to show me a person who thinks more of Butch than of our program, but then there you were.

"better than we deserve"? Really? Just what is it that you think Tennessee football "deserves"? We're one of the top 10 winningest football programs in college football history; I don't think there's any limit to what this school "deserves" in coaching staff.

And you're wrong about what happens when you reach the top. There are, in fact, two directions you can go: down, or continue to ride the crest. If folks who reached the top were destined to go down next, we wouldn't have this little phenomenon called Nick Saban.

I think I saw evidence of another last night while denying they existed and was forced to reevaluate my thoughts. I'm still not convinced that's really what they think, but I can at least understand how some might see it that way.

Was a lot for me to absorb last night. Haha.

Yeah, man, shocked me this morning to find this post I quoted. I mean, we were in dark times when Butch arrived, but this is still the University of freaking Tennessee. And I'm convinced Butch is 100% on board with that idea; he knows the program is bigger than him or any individual coach.

Supposedly Colorado offered 5 years/$13 million. We hired him at slightly under $3 million a year. So basically $300k-ish more annually.

Mike MacIntyre was only making $2 million/year until his contract extension this month put him at $3.25 million/year.

UT gave Butch $2.95 million/year to start 5 years ago. It'd be hard to take the Colorado job over UT when they are offering you a million a year less.

No, there were a large number of coaches wanting this job. They weren't homeruns or remotely high level tho. Got turned down by noted demigods Charlie Strong,Larry Fedora and Mike Gundy. :hmm: I'm sure we'll hear names like Petrino or Kiffin pop up...that's another thread. :thud:

I was just curious if he would double down on it. I don't think there are more than 3 posters on this site that actually believe the complete opposite of your bold. Which is 100% correct.

You do grasp the distinction that the large number consists of the quality equal to or lower than who we hired? The guy we hired has built this program up to the level where some homeruns might answer a phone call...and then we end up with an Orgeron. :fool:

That distinction was never implied with "no one". From the sense he bailed UT out.
