Coach Barnes and Coach Hardaway interaction after game

Me, my son, my grandson and granddaughter went to the game yesterday. We interacted with the Memphis fans who were sitting next to us and everything was fine. No bitterness between us....just good friendly jawing from time to time. We felt bad when one of the Memphis fans fell down the steps and had to be carted away in an ambulance to the hospital. That's sad that it happened to anyone. After the game, as we were walking out, some idiot Memphis fan was cussing and calling all VOLS **** and other derogatory names. Then he said he was a gang member from Memphis and would beat any UT ass he wished. What a dbag he was. I didn't appreciate his rude nasty comments around my grandkids.

I didn't see it so egregiously as you but I respect your perspective. I do strongly doubt anyone said " Hey, let's just abandon the whole strategy and try to get a bunch of offensive fouls called" though.

Can't blame you for that. Maybe the fans you sat next to were more representative of the city and program than the ones you experienced as you were leaving?

Guys we can play devil's advocate of the opposing view, and thats fine. I'm totally ok with that.

BUT

I will say that my dad was a high school and junior college BB coach, and he NEVER addressed in public (much less on camera) an opposing coach as "Joe Blow...get the F outta here."

That was not a slip, nor was it taking up for his kids. If Barnes does it, I will also condemn it.

I'm from WT and grew up rooting for Tiger High, so I'm not UT homering on this one. I never saw Finch act like this. Even Cal was not this common.

Penny needs to find a better way to get his camera time.

No, he won't, and neither will you, because it's fabricated BS. I posted the exact statement from Barnes.

Pointing out grammatical errors and calling out absolute untruths are apples and oranges. He made his point, and that is that your point is garbage because it isn't based in any truth.

This took less than a second to find but I'm glad I could help. Fourth paragraph, first sentence (so you won't have to read too much).

That sentence is followed by the "Hardaway responded..." declaring that Barnes cast the first stone. You'll note this is from a UT Vol publication.

I did not say Barnes said "Memphis is a bunch of floppers". You inserted the quotation marks. I said 'Barnes called Memphis a bunch of floppers' (3rd post from the top for reference). You are attributing a quote that was never quoted.

Your link doesn't help you at all because there is no quote of Barnes calling Memphis a bunch of floppers. It's the author saying Barnes criticized the flopping but those are the author's words, not Barnes'.

So yes, you do still look stupid here.

To hold me and the author to that standard, then you have to provide a link with a quote saying Barnes said "Memphis is not a bunch of floppers". My comment is based on reporting and what is now common knowledge. I never used a quote. A quote was not necessary to make the point I was making which was that Barnes made a comment offensive to Memphis basketball and the Memphis coach responded aggressively (later apologizing).

You are arguing for the sake of arguing. My best advice (which you will not take) is to not dig harder when you are in a hole.

Knoxville is “The” University of Tennessee. Memphis State is our little brother. They will never be us. We play In the big bad SEC. They are in tiny Conference America. If we played their weak schedule we would be unbeaten.

They have cheated since Calipari. Penny bought Wiseman for $10,500. Got busted. Now they are beating their chests because they upset the Vols who are in a rebuilding year. Rick Barnes is the best and classiest coach ever. Penny is a thug and will be gone in a few years. East Tennessee is beautiful. Memphis is a crime ridden slum. That sums it up brothers. We are great. They suck.

A post-game handshake is hardly something to judge a relationship from. I've coached high school ball for years and coach against some good friends of mine. We're all competitors, the post game handshake line is a formality, not a time to continue to forge lifelong relationships. Most coaches barely acknowledge it, especially after a close, hard fought game.

I did not read the previous two pages so I am sorry if this was already hashed out and we've moved on to other more inane debates haha.
