Fulmer doesn't make CNNSI (Mandel) list of coaches on the hot seat:

If I were to categorize the job-security of the nation's many "coaches on the hot seat," the three referenced above -- Nebraska's Bill Callahan, Texas A&M's Dennis Franchione and Arkansas' Houston Nutt -- would all fall into the most severe category: "Dead Men Walking." They are what Larry Coker and John Bunting were this time a year ago. And joining them on that list is fifth-year Washington State coach Bill Doba.

It's these egregious crimes that separate those four from guys like UCLA's Karl Dorrell, Clemson's Tommy Bowden, Arizona's Mike Stoops, SMU's Phil Bennett, Duke's Ted Roof and Marshall's Mark Snyder, all of whom are also hanging by a thin thread but could still theoretically save themselves (as Bowden has done countless times before). We'll put them in the "One Foot Out the Door" category. (Michigan's Lloyd Carr could re-join this group as well if his now-resurgent team were to suddenly cool off.)

Then there are a whole bunch of guys who are sitting on the brink of trouble but would need to perform pretty badly over the second half of the season to actually lose their jobs. They fall into the more mild "Roasty Bottoms" category. I'm speaking of you, Syracuse's Greg Robinson (whose AD, Daryl Gross, is essentially the East Coast version of Steve Pederson, and isn't likely to pull the plug on his grand hire after just three seasons), Baylor's Guy Morriss, Mississippi State's Sylvester Croom and Ole Miss' Ed Orgeron.

Fulmer definitely not on the hot seat. Being able to still win your divison and conference for that matter, should keep someone off the hot seat. Still a lot of games.

Go retirement! Go!
That would be the best possible scenario. For so long as he stays now, there is going to be a significant part of the fanbase who wants him gone. Every time the Vols tank a couple or have thier manhood handed to them in a jar (ala UF this year) it is going to rip apart the fanbase all over again. This will not end until Phil is gone. If he cares about the program and the fans half as much as he claims to then he will just hang it up.

He's only 57 and no other job is going to pay him 2 million plus a year....and it's not like there is some cozy television studio or broadcast booth job in the works for a guy with a bland personality who is overweight, mumbles and tight lipped.....sorry fellas, he's still your coach in '08!

He has more than enough money to last him the rest of his life.

Fulmer will probably be doing color analsyst for ESPN in the future covering college football "got to work like heck to stop the run". He'll be the next John Madden in college football.

I just have a grim feeling that CPF will be the head coach until he's ready to leave. I agree with Justin a bowl lost would hurt his chance, but not if its in say a 9-4 season....hard to fire a coach with that kind of season, know what i mean? Dont like MH has the sack to sack the big man honestly....

CPF's seat is as warm as his next loss. He knows what his quota is....every win for the Vols is a risk reduction for Phil. He definitely has a mandate.
