My brother and I were in Berkeley for a couple hours this evening and were shocked by how many folks in the bars were clueless about the upcoming game. In fact, when we asked at Raleigh's if there was a real sports bar in town, one Cal student who was football saavy said absolutely not. At Bear's Lair, it was packed but no discussoin at all of the football game. In fact, one patron asked if they could change the channel off of ESPN. Any other "football town" would have students or fans approaching us (in Vols hats) discussing the game. It was as if no game was even going on.

We decided to do an experiment and ask the first 10 Cal students who the football team played this weekend. If we asked someone who was not a Cal student, we didn't count them.

Here's our results:
Only 3/10 knew that Cal was playing Tennessee this weekend. Of those 3, only 1 planned to go to the game. The other 9 just "don't care" or "don't like football." Amazing.

Droski and Teddyhead . . . your town still has a long way to go.

PS -- a group of Vols will be tailgaiting in a lot across from the Berkeley Downtown Inn, so please feel free to come by.

Ha ha ha...that's insane. We have current events quizzes every Thurs. in my Journalism class. One question was who do we play this weekend, and I'm almost positive all 150 of us got it right.

Maybe we should take our minds off of trivial things like football and concern ourselves with more noble causes... such as saving the trees.

Is that Professor crazy or what?????

It's funny how he tries to scare us with his lectures on grammar.

I seriously think that he's on a power trip. He loves it when he can just stare out into the crowd and silence falls. His "dramatic pauses" lead for a longer class and could be taken out. I'm pretty sure he's a Bama fan. And my TA is from UF.

What class is this in? I'm a Journalism major.

I'm glad I don't have the TA from Florida. It's bad enough that my TA is a St. Louis Cardinals fan and I am a Cubs fan.

We should seriously challenge Stovall on his Tide feelings one day.

If you get a chance, go check out Tilden Park. It's up a very, very, VERY steep road in the back of a subdivision and has an amazing view as well as plenty of areas for nice pictures and such.

Berkeley is a cool town if you can deal with the liberal, hippie mess. Quite beautiful there actually.

I'd also go ahead and venture into Oakland and/or S.F. It isn't that far and why not hit up the Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39 for a bit of shopping and good food, as well as Lombard St.

You can accomplish all of this in just a couple of hours and it's well worth it. You can also see Alcatraz from the bridges and Pier 39 of course, which was very cool. I did the tour, but that's a several hour venture in itself.

As this takes a serious turn off topic...I'm in 200 and 275 too. I'm doing TV. I'm in Media Management.

I did radio when I took 275. Benny is such a nice guy... whenever I talked to the guy who runs the TV station I just heard this coming from his mouth "I'm a tool. I'm a tool. I'm a really big tool. I am a really big tool"

And I am doing Media Management too.

I heard that too. But I heard that he does that so not so many people do the TV thing and he's not such a douche when you get there...that's what I'm banking on anyway.

Last semester a TON of people did TV. Radio was AWESOME. Benny was a great guy and I got an A+ on that section of the class.

Tonight I did a survey of 57 Cal students walking through Sproul Plaza, and 49 of them could identify that Cal was playing Tennessee this Saturday.

^ Cool.

That's just how it is in the major urban areas on the west coast... Seattle, Portland, Bay Area, SoCal. Literally like 5% as many people watch college football as in the south.
