I have a very good source thats very closely associated with the team and to me that told me yesterday there is mostly no QB controversy. I was told that Nick Stephens will be the starter and everything that CLK has told the media about Crompton being the starter is mostly wrong unless some miracle occurs turning crompton's brain into Manning's. I didn't ask why but one can only assume it's to attract a high profile QB prospect. He also said that Crompton will probably start the season but Stephens will take over soon. He added that Stephens is playing alot better in practice and has a better understanding of the system.

That being said...I don't believe for a second that CLK will start a weaker QB for appearances sake. It also goes against everything that has ever been said about JC in practices. Apparently, he is the man in practice, just not on the field in games.

Kiffin has said all along that he wants only one guy at QB for the whole season. No offense to your source, but I just find it hard to believe that Kiffin would start Crompton and then pull him for Stephens later on just to get a top QB prospect here. In fact, I think that would hurt QB recruiting more than it would help. JMO

I call BS, what would Lane have to gain by allowing him to start if he isn't the best on the turf, it is a 360 from his line of thought and everything he has said. If Nick is better he will get the time...thats all

So Kiffin is just going lean towards Crompton this whole time and all of a sudden he's he has changed it to Stephens before the QB competition even starts? I don't buy this.

I'm not saying that I doubt your source, but even if he's right, how would we know?

While not wanting to offend anyone's sources I don't the benefit of CLK pulling this type of manuever...in either tactically on the field or in recruiting. Granted, I am not the coach, but it would really surprise me after all that CLK has said thus far.

Also why put so much stock in crompton for this one season when they are probably equal when you know Stephens is the shoe in starter for 2010 and he gain much needed experience
