People around me in section B last night were screaming for us to snap the ball during our last scoring drive. It was agonizing watching them burn up so much time. This isn’t the first time we didn’t leave ourselves enough time to perhaps get a stop and have a chance at a winning field goal. A little bit better clock management would’ve made the onside kick unnecessary. This would seem to be a hole in Josh‘s game. We have a former QB who was one of the best clock managers in history who might be willing to help. We need something, that’s for sure.

The announcers ( Herbstreet and Fowler) were calling Heupel out for this during the game. This was also one of the most discussed topics on the Tony Basilio post game show by Tony and all the callers.
These clock management scenarios have happened more than once now this season during games.

The onside kick was the right call. In a 2 point game, no reason to kick it deep and play field position hoping the defense can hold up and force a punt. Onside kick gives you a chance to get the ball back. Kicking it deep is pining everything on the defense to make a stop.

Well, that’s the point… with maybe a minute more on the clock we wouldn’t have needed to resort to a low percentage onsides kick.

It was a good kick. OK player made a nice play. It was close to being there for us

The onside kick attempt should have happened regardless. In a 2 point game, giving up a short field field goal is irrelevant.

Kicking it deep and forcing the defense to make a stop is conceding the game.
