UT can't gripe over late scores

What's worse than losing to a rival by 39 points?
Whining about it afterward.

A handful of Tennessee players complained that Florida piled up points after the outcome was long since settled last Saturday.
For the record, the Gators scored 24 fourth-quarter points and 10 in the final five minutes.
"In the fourth quarter, you left a couple of your starters in," UT defensive tackle Demonte' Bolden said. "That was all good. It was just like … did you have to score that?"
Defensive end Xavier Mitchell took it a step further, suggesting that an orange-tinted reprisal could be forthcoming but also noting that UT Coach Phillip Fulmer would never add insult to injury on the scoreboard.
"What goes around comes around," Mitchell said. "Coach Fulmer's not that type of coach. If he's up 50, the game's in the bag, and I respect Coach Fulmer for that."
To his credit, Fulmer has taken the high road, although his tone suggests that he thinks Gators Coach Urban Meyer was guilty of overkill.
"People choose to do things for their own reasons," he said. "As I said after the game, it's our job to stop them. We shouldn't have gotten ourselves in that situation.
"I know there's mixed feelings about that, but I'm not going to sit here and say all I think."
Shut up and play
This just in, guys: None of this is covered in the rules of engagement in college football. They don't hand out etiquette books at the coaches' convention. If you don't want to give up 59 points, tackle somebody.
Sure, some coaches abide by a gentlemen's agreement. They don't rub each other's noses in it. They'll take a knee rather than risk hurting a colleague's feelings.
To each his own.
As for the suggestion that Fulmer might extract a measure of revenge somewhere down the line, Meyer doesn't seem concerned. Nor should he. The trend lines of the two programs are going in different directions. The talent and coaching differential is wide … and getting wider.
In short, I don't see UT getting a chance to hang half-a-hundred on the Gators anytime soon.

We needed the stomping so we can see how bad we really are. I am glad they ran it myself. We need to MAN UP!

They shouldn't be complaining. It's part of the game. They got whipped plain and simple. They need to start worrying more about stopping offenses. Our team is soft.

It's like someone said the other day:

It's not Urban's job to stop the scoring, it is our defense's job to stop the scoring.

Our D acts like a bunch of little girls. They need to strap up and go hit somebody. I bet my avatar is ashamed.

They should have all just shut up. Noone want's to here about why you couldn't hold them to any less than 59 POINTS. Man this is tiring.

Always remember, it's not like these guys walked up to a reporter and offered a statement. They were asked a question, they answered. I understand the sentiment about whining. But context is a factor...

Those who allowed the Gators to run up the score are the only ones to blame. Urban saw weakness and exploited it. Had they done their job, we wouldn't be talking about this. I cannot fault Urban for them to continue playing when our guys rolled over and let it happen. This goes for offense and defense.

IT'S OUR JOB TO STOP THEM, IF YOU CAN'T, THEN KEEP SCORING! IF IT WERE US, WE WOULD WANT AS MANY ON THE SCOREBOARD AS POSSIBLE FOR THE SAKE OF MORE POLL POINTS IN THE COMPUTER RANKINGS. IF WE CAN'T SCORE AGAINST THEIR SECOND TEAM, THAT'S OUR MISERABLE PROBLEM.....THAT WAS THEIR 3RD TEAM SAFETY WHO BROKE HIS LEG AT THE END OF THE GAME.

Fulmer wont have a chance to exact blowout revenege anyways. Florida will be better then us for at least the next year (probably two) and I have a hard time believing that Fulmer will last that long.

Doesn't matter if you lose by 1 point or 100. It's still a loss. End the discussion by winning.

"what goes around comes around" --what kind of an idiot says that after you lose by 40 points. Gator radio replayed that quote yesterday and the host said "No it doesn't.
Tennessee will never beat anybody by 39 points."

Florida-Tennessee is hardly a rivalry anymore boys. Tennessee has only won 4 of the last 14 times.

15 Times. Your right and it won't be one until we have a new coach.

Other than Florida State, is there anybody that has beaten Florida more than 4 or 5 times in the past 15 years? I haven't checked, but I'd be really surprised if anybody has. I know there's nobody in the SEC East that has beaten them more than we have. Auburn and LSU have beaten them a few times and are probably close to .500 during that time period.

Not saying our record is stellar, but nobody else's is either.

See what Auburn has done against them in that time frame. I know they've gotten them a few times.
