I dont see this talked about. Heck, maybe I am fool for having such thoughts. To me, Clemson has taken our spot at the table. The elite players we once upon a time picked up from the region that didnt attend Georgia, Alabama, or Florida are going there. 10-15yrs ago Trevor Lawrence and Tee Higgins would have been Vols. Add in Cade Mayes and I'd say we would all be feeling a bit better about the future of TN football right now. Their rise coincided with our demise, and their continued strength doesn't help us on the trail. I for one will be rooting for them to lose every game they play.

Face it, we are a s#!*storm thanks to selfish boosters and puppet administrators who hire coaches on the cheap instead of pay top dollar to get a quality staff. Clemson figured it out by hiring Dabo Swinney and him hiring a five star staff. Would you really pick us over Clemson right now if you were a five star recruit? I honestly wouldn't.

Cade is at Georgia. Played some this weekend. We really could have used him

Nope. I don't get mad at kids going to Clemson. It sucks but I get it. They go there for the same reasons kids used to come here. What I do think it will result in, and nobody wants to hear this, it will limit the quantity of top level guys we can get, like the Cade Mayes types. Which will result in the rebuild taking longer. Because we're gonna have to initially get 4 and 5 year guys and develop them, let them mature.

Is this quote for real? Swinney was a position coach who got promoted when Tommy Bowden was let go Midway through the 08 season. Now, as it turned out they hit the jackpot. That can't be denied. But let's not act like Clemson went out and hired some guy with a proven track record.

You are correctx they didn't. But they hit the jack point in a program manager, realized that and gave him the cash to surround himself with a top level staff. Have to give then props for that.

They hit the jackpot with Chad Morris, then paid up making him the highest paid assistant in college football.

Just 5 years ago the term “Clemsoning” was a thing. Always losing the big game due to terrible coaching.

Clemson promoted Sweeney and stuck with him. They didn't suck before he took the job, but Bowden could not get them over the hump. They basically got lucky.

Tennessee has to recruit nationally. If you hire a coach with no recruiting chops then you get what you paid for
A lot of our fanbase fails to realize the changed dynamics of recruiting this generation. Kids these days do not want early playing time and the chance to be part of a rebuild. These kids were raised in the era of "The Decision" and pro-bowlers taking pay cuts to go to NE Patriots. It's about building super teams and winning rings. The only way to break the cycle is to overachieve right out of the gate to make prospects believe that you can win championships with a few more pieces in place or to be a rock star that recruits will flock to based on past successes as a hfc. We are now in a position where we are going to try to beat the Bamas and UGAs by playing the same kind of football that they play only they have a huge head start and they get first pick of the best recruits for the system. Using this strategy, the only way we get where we want is if Kirby and Nick get lazy or start f-ing up a bunch.

We are in a vicious cycle. We don't have the talent to beat the good teams in the conference. We can't get the talent becuase we suck. With the classes UGA and Bama keep getting, I don't see us breaking the cycle for a long time. Heck didn't UGA get about 6 5*s last year. So over the next 4 years, even if they don't get another recruit, they are going to be hard to beat. Have you seen Justin Fields play yet, he is going to be special. Butch was suppose to be a heck of a recruiter, but he blew allot of possible 5* that grew up wanting to play for UT(Trevor Lawrence, Tee Higgins, etc)

They come in here every year and cherry pick a few that should be Vols. They get the ones from their state that would have went here also. You got Musclecramp doing pretty well at SC too so we just don't get them away from that state like we used too.
