It looks like Clemson and FSU will stay with the ACC until about 2031 after negotiating a "step down" on the media GOR. They also got the ACC to change media revenue sharing to a partially viewership based split.

Pretty much puts the ACC on the clock as a whole. Sucks that a conference that at one point was so great will eventually be gone .
It will survive in name, but it’s likely going to turn into a hodgepodge/mishmash of ACC schools, American Conference schools, and maybe a SunBelt team or at most two.

It, the new PAC 12 and, in all honesty, likely the new Big 12 are all pretty much going to end up at some sort of “new group of 5”-ish level relative to the bigger brand schools probably (or at the absolute best, a middle ground between the group of 5 level and the main 2 power conferences). But the name will stay (it does all those schools some good to have the still-comparatively-more-recognizable name when it comes to the general public sports fan’s attention/eyes and in turn any future contracts).

Sounds like a great deal for FSU, Clemson and Miami. Pretty much puts the ACC on the clock as a whole. Sucks that a conference that at one point was so great will eventually be gone .
So many good basketball coaches have retired out of that conference the last few years.. Roy and K retired back to back in 2021, then this year you've got Bennett, Larranaga, and Leonard Hamilton all done.

I’m including Boheim in this also ..

For those keeping score at home that’s 11 National Championships and 29 Final Fours that have left the league in the past 3 to 4 years. Not to mention losing a coach at the level of Leonard Hamilton, who somehow never made a Final 4, but almost always had a very tough team. The timing of the realignment stuff was not good for the league. It always had basketball, but now that’s barely holding on . Looking like a 3 or 4 bid league this season.

Didn't even think about Boeheim. It isn't like any of the teams that lost coaches other than UNC and Duke were rolling when their guys retired, but that's still a lot of past success and experience that is gone.

Mike Brey isn’t far removed from that list either. A couple Elite Eights and never a fun team to play.

Should the ACC and Big East merge? Would the basketball revenue help them?
In the same way everything in the Big 12 needed Texas' okay, I think everything from here on in the ACC needs Clemson and FSU's okay. Or for them to get a bigger percentage of the TV revenue.

In all honesty, I’ve said all along that Clemson and FSU would be a great addition to the Big 12 for football. Or if you somehow married the 2 leagues together you would unquestionably have the best basketball conference. Duke, Carolina, Kansas, Arizona at the top of the conference is greater than anything anyone else could put together. Football would be a good mix of similar institutions, both public and private. I don’t know how you go about it scheduling wise, but both conferences could help each other IMO.
