Clay Travis's Take on Commandant Dooley

I mean it was a little strange but CDD got his point across. We all knew what he is talking about when he made that analogy. He didn't call the team Nazis or compare them to HItler. It was simply about being unprepared for an unexpected situation like the Germans faced on D-day. I don't think it's a huge deal.

Finebaum. There's a real piece of work. What a tool. I can't stand that guy either; I don't care if he is a UT grad. The guy is a jack wad.

Exactly. Finebaum is a UT grad , with his lips planted firmly on Saban's ass. I haven't heard the show much lately (thank God) , but the last time I did , somebody called his show asking if he had carpet burns on his knees after visiting with Saban one weekend

Some people feel like they can make an informed assessment based on what they've seen 7 games in. Clay seems to have thrown in with a small but growing group who have decided that Dooley will be nothing more than a caretaker who is here for two or three years and whose biggest contribution to the program will be to restore some roster depth. If I was being completely rational and brutally honest I'd probably have to acknowledge that there is some merit in that POV although the fan in me wants like hell for him to wrong.

Methinks somebody stole Clay's pacifier...he's been like a whining rugrat. Even his voice sounds more like Jim Rome every day. Like Hyams & Lowe, he's irrelevant.

We were just asked to leave Jackass 3D because we took beer into the theater. Open debate whether this is a new high or new low for me.

The Alamo comparison is just stupid and wishy washy. And totally not the point Dooley was making. He was criticizing the team, and not saying they were fighting as hard as they can.

I thought Dooley's observation was brilliant and I'd be shocked if he ever apologized.

What he says is entertaining , but he isn't the right person for 3 hour lunch :moon2:

I dont hate clay travis but i am growing tired of him.
I quit following him on twitter, etc.....
You guys are doing what he wants you to do
he says outlandish things gets peoples blood pumping you grab his link post it on a message board people go nuts click on the link and and he gets paid.
Dont click on the link, and he will go away.
If your kid behaved this way you would likely ignore him. CT is basically a kid ignore him and he might go away OR he might ask another college kid if he is a virgin.

If that turns out to be the case, it still doesn't justify all the bashing. It is way too early to make those judgements. Much of this reaction I think is just emotional release by people who can't handle adversity of their team very well. Being a fan requires a lot less commitment and actual pain than being a coach or a player actually trying to work through this.

I have no respect for people who act this way. I'm done with Travis at this point.

Derek Dooley Invokes Nazis at D-Day to Describe Tennessee -- NCAAFB FanHouse

OK, still yet, nobody has explained to me why Dooley's analogy of UT and you know, the Germans is so offensive. Read this f'in article by Clay Travis. (For the record, i never trust somebody with two first names). He gives a commentary. From his point of view. But fails, like every other article on the subject, to explain why what Dooley said is offensive. The closest he could come is comparing it (as we need to get used to) to Saban's comparing their LA Monroe loss to 9/11. There's one problem with this. 9/11 was only a couple years earlier. Way "too soon" as Jeff Ross would say.

I still can't tell regardless of when we would have said it why his comments were offensive. No article has. I've looked. It ain't there.

WTF is Clay Travis anyway? A Nazi?

About as hard to read, too.

It seems that we live in a time when everyone wants to rush to the extreme ends of the spectrum.

"It's a large beast that responds to what the American public responds to. And as a group the American public can be quite dumb"

So now Reporters and Journalists are "large beasts".... Really Clay? And then you proceed to say that the only reason you and the media are covering this "dumb" story is because the American public is dumb. Actually Clay, from what I gather, the majority of ppl that I have spoken with, at least somewhat understand what Dooley was saying, while you and your "large beast" friends tend to blow the whole thing out of proportion for some much-desired attention.

I don't hate you Clay, I just feel sorry for you. When you call your audience dumb, they tend to stop listening or reading your articles anymore. I know I will.

Clay, you're a classless, bandwagon riding attention whore, who just rolled over on his team because of a press conference quote that you took out of context. Good job.

Go VOLS!

I actually kind of like Clay, but he has been going crazy on Dooley this week. He (Travis) is just an opportunistic "journalist" that likes to sensationalize everything. That's why people listen to his radio show, and read his glorified blog. Clay really does bleed orange, and for that, I cut him slack...but he is dead wrong about Dooley.

 +1

Did anyone read the article?

I don't see anything to get mad about. It actually seemed like Travis was on Dooley's side. Additionally, everyone on here is proving his point about the stupid American public. It's outrage for the sake of outrage on here.

I could report that Dooley took cream in his coffee this morning, and at a minimum five respondents would be outraged. Three at Dooley for not taking his coffe black, and two at me for reporting it. This place is NUTZ.

absolutely agree. i read the article, then read the responses so far on this thread, and wondered how many on here actually even read the article.
