Clay Travis

I hear him sounding off about UT a lot. He has a lot of success and $$$. Why don't he become a booster and make UT pursue the coach he wants?
Because people that donate a lot more money than he will ever have didn’t want this hire. Is what it is.

Our major boosters are billionaires and dudes worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Clay doesn't have near that type of money. He doesn't even have Dave Portnoy money, let alone come anywhere close to sniffing Jimmy Haslam money. Think about this, the most generous listing of Travis's net worth that you can find publicly puts him at around $20M. That is a ton of money. Hell, it's a lot more than I've got, but think about the Auburn situation. It's been widely reported that a single booster stroked the check to pay Gus Malzahn's buyout, and that check was for more money than Clay has if he liquidated everything - according to what you can find online. Our boosters have MORE MONEY THAN AUBURN'S.

He also doesn't have the type of cultural pull at UT. The guys stroking checks to have buildings named after them - you know like the Thornton Center or the Anderson Training Facility - they not only live in an economic stratosphere that Clay can only dream of, but they also command a level of respect in the University that dates back for decades. The Haslam family owns an NFL franchise, and gets a yearly share of revenue that is more than Clay makes in years combined. Bill Haslam was the Governor. So, putting aside the fact that Clay cannot throw enough money at them to sway anything, he doesn't have the clout to draw their attention.

Think back to the first time you heard of Clay Travis. I first heard of him at the SEC Media days when he asked Tim Tebow (who was one of the Florida players there to represent his school) if he was still a virgin. That ought to tell you all you need to know about Travis--it's all about the attention.

The more you read about Travis the more you realize how big of an asshat he is

One day Tennessee will be good again and Clay Travis and Paul Finebaum will all have actual positive things to say about our sorry program and all you hypocrites will line up . Dont hate on them because our program is a national embarrassment. Dont get butt hurt over honesty.

Clays made a great living so this is no knock on the guy, but he doesn’t have “influence a coaching search” money. Not yet anyway.

Unless you need to sbap.

I think a lot of people in this thread are easily offended. Clay is pretty smart, and a genuine UT fan.
I've never heard a bad word about Houston Kress, and he was really cool when I met him.
I'm starting to understand why so many of you on here are miserable humans , lol.

Sounds like UT football for the last 20 years
Again you all get consumed with the messenger, how about just listen to what he said? What he said was spot on. You paid an AD 1.8 mil and a new HC 4 mil with a total of 6 mil buyout. The AD hired his pal from his old job. So first impression is White is either lazy or incompetent. It's clear the decision makers and a large part of the fan base are fine with being a 7-5 ish program

Clay used to piss me off back in the Dooley days because he was so negative about our staff. In retrospect, every time he has been, he's been right.

Bullsh**.....a "genuine UT fan" would never hang off the nuts of a Vandy coach and openly mock and troll UT fans about it and gloat when Vandy beat UT.

And calling a douchebag a douchebag and calling him out for his asshatery isn't being "easily offended", it's telling it like it is. Isn't that what the Travis Window Lickers Brigrade like him so much for, "telling it like it is". Yet when somoene "tells it like it is" about him, suddenly they are easily offended. Project much?

The funniest thing about Travis' "dbap" act is he's probably one of the biggest p's in the game. Remember this is the guy who's entire hatred of Dooley started because he asked Dooley a question at SEC Media days and Dooley made fun of him because he couldn't understand him and said he sounded like he had marbles in his mouth and other reporters laughed. Travis got so butthurt about it that he immediately started a his own war against Dooley.

He doesn’t make enough money to have that kind of sway. He’s wants to be Dave Portnoy so bad
