Anyone else got this book yet?
I read the first three chapters (aside from the terrible memories of the UCLA game) it is a pretty good read thus far.

Couple notes:

J Crompton is pretty funny.

Arian Fosters mom is pretty hot.
yeah.gif

johnny long is an idiot.

I'm 2 chapters in. I love it, the guy is a good writer and had a great opportunity to spend the season with the team.

I want to get it. Has anyone read Dixieland Delight by him? That one sounds interesting as well.

Dixieland delight is good too.
he is a good writer, little bit too much of a self promoter but all in all a good writer.

I went to Clay's book signing at Davis Kidd in Nashville last night. He read/took questions for about an hour and then signed. He was very informative and entertaining. I'm looking forward to reading the book. I'd encourage anyone to go to one of his signings if you get a chance. He's having several more in various cities over the next few weeks.

Picked up "On Rocky Top" yesterday and am looking forward to reading it next week while I'm in Grand Cayman!

Also read DD and enjoyed it. True on the self-promotion bit. He even created a hand-sign so that his 10 or so followers could be recognized in public when they "flash" it.

I got my copy and finished it already. I thought it was a great read. Funny and sad all in the same cover. I especially like how he talked about his struggle of how his view as a fan changed somewhat when he starts to get to know the players and the coaches and those inside the program. It made it more difficult for him to feel the way he was used to feeling when things went bad. He would still be angry at players and frustrated with the team and then feel guilty about that as he watched them try to fight through all the negativity and still try to perform at a high levels. It was an excruciating season for all involved. Hard to experience and hard to watch.

I still think the book is a must read because it might, in some small way, give you a chance to rethink a few things about that season that you wouldn't otherwise rethink. Clay is a good writer and has a way of making you feel all that he experienced. There were parts that made me laugh out loud and other parts that made me cry. It's worth the read.

Saw the book while I was on lunch break and spent the hour skimming it. I'll go back tonight & buy it and you're absolutely right FMom.... I used to be one of those fans who hollered at the TV and called the players everything but a child of God after a bad play, missed tackle, fumble, interception etc... It eventually ocurred to me that these young men are human (except in the case of Eric Berry, who is superhuman!!) and the sacrifices they have made to be where they are deserve nothing less than our utmost respect and appreciation. Yes, losing games that could have been won is frustrating as a fan (so imagine how hard it must be for the players who have an actual stake in the game?) but How many of us "keyboard commando's" have had our mistakes played out in front of a nationwide audience, complete with instant replay and entire networks devoted to analyzing every facet of said mistake ad infinitum???

Best of luck to Arian with the Texans! I see where he has really made an impression on the coaches there and I fully expect him to get a lot of PT in the upcoming season.

DD was a great read. I was done with it in about 3 days.
Funny thing, it was given to me by a buddy from UF. He said he loved the book except for the UF jorts references!! Ha.

...sad as it might sound I have read it three times, still can't get over the Florida loss in 06, every time I read that chapter it is like a scab being torn off your most tender area. Ironic that both the author and I soothed our despair with moonshine, mine was straight from the hills of East Ennessee, that very night!

Pretty funny stuff including self depracating humor which I appreciate as most folks take them selves way too serious, especially us fans.

I ordered the Rocky Top not received to date. My son could not wait and bought it...thinks it is great.

GO VOLS

I wish Clay would get back to doing his UT game diaries like he did on DeadlyHippos. Which obviously inspired the Dixieland Delight book. Ironic how quickly that whole idea of "blogging" has showed up everywhere and on every site. I never used to see people do the timeline sort of thing until I started reading DeadlyHippos years ago.
