Schiano, if hired, would have been an improvement over Pruitt. Pruitt was just that bad. You would have actually saw prepared teams, decent lines, halftime adjustments, and teams not quitting. I'm not saying that he would have done great but I would suspect the following:

Y1: 7-6 (Schiano) vs 5-7
Y2: 9-4 (Schiano) vs 8-5
Y3: 6-4 (Schiano) vs 3-7

Through 3 years that's 22-14 vs 16-19

There's no way to predict Schiano's record. He may not have recruited as well and had a different set of players he was coaching.

Manning has made no secret he likes Adam Gase. Jets hired Gase off Manning’s recommendation.

White likes Tony Elliott. He told the brass he already had someone willing to take the job, was it Elliott? Not sure, but White hasn’t dealt with donors the way TN has donors. His pressure hires have been basketball and that is his wheelhouse, his family too.

White almost hired Elliott over Heupel and likes everything about him.

I think TN could pull Bob Stoops, and I think they give him a call.

TN is not pulling Bob Stoops. Stoops spend a lot of his career talking bad about the SEC. Zero chance.

Agree that best thing about Randy White hire was it was stealthlike and fast. The longer the HC position is open, the longer we will rehash what if BS hires like Schiano, Grudes, etc. and, leave open countless threads on the rest of the 'what if' class of possible HCs. Lord, make it quick - please. TY.

most accomplished head coach since Johnny Majors ?????????????

Majors had a NC under his belt

So, no way we are getting the most accomplished head coach since Johnny Majors!

SINCE Johnny Majors....meaning more experienced that Phil, Lane, Butch or Pruitt...

And you still do not know that Schiano would have done better. He would have been a HORRIBLE hire. As Travis points out, one being a bad hire doesn't make the other a good hire.
Schiano’s highest ranked class would have been in the 30’s

You do realize how long it took Schiano to be mediocre at Rutgers right. That don’t even include his well know player/coach issues that wouldn’t fly with top talent. When you’re a kid that’s going to Rutgers to play football you are thankful for the opportunity to play D1. Top talent isn’t gonna put up with the same crap.

Schiano would has us recruiting with UK and Vandy for talent .

True,
It was all gnashing of teeth, and complaining of the search would take to long for all of 2 days, then BOOM , Sammy White....new AD for University of Tennessee 👍

Knock him all you want but Clay is dead on with the Schiano comments.

We are probably staring at similar records right now whether it was Schiano or Pruitt in charge.

Take away Ray Rice and Schianos record gets even worse.
Definitely not lol Schiano was always the better option by far. Clay just struggles to admit he was wrong.

Elliot fits the job description at UCF. Not so much Tennessee. Didn’t he turn down the ucf job before DW hired Huepel?
