Clawson's QB @ Bowling Green - the stats tell a story

And on the other side, you have a brand new coaching staff full of NFL guys who get to watch them both in practice every day, and they thought Crompton gives them the better chance to win. You're criticizing the decision of a bunch of professional coaches who have access to about a thousand times more information than you do.

You don't just "try the other guy" at QB unless you're absolutely convinced that he gives you a better chance to win; down that path lies the Ainge/Clausen debacle of 2005. You guy with one guy at a time, and when you swtich, it's permanent. Apparently Kiffin must really think nothing of Stephens at all if he's willing to put up with what Crompton's brought to the table so far rather than face nine more games of Stephens as his QB.
Good point. I hope you are wrong. I think you hope you are wrong! I hope Kiffin is sticking with Crompton cause he wants to set a precedent that he will yank QBs fast. I hope (we all do) that NS is a much better player than Crompton. If he is not, and we have to go with true Freshman QB next year behind a rebuilt weak OL (no running game) we will lose to
- Oregon, Florida, @LSU, @Georgia, Miss, Alabama, @South Carolina and perhaps one of Kentucky or @ Vandy. Giving us 7 losses with perhaps 8. Again we all hope NS is better than what we got. You may be right, but i hope not!

ok, so first i didn't like the "facts". Then i gave the "facts". And now they are useless? If you have an analytical approach to you crompton-luving rational i am happy to hear it.
Why do you think i 'luv' crompton? He's bad, really bad, but he's better than Stephens.

Awright dude - olive branch. We agree Crompton is bad, really bad. You think Stephens is worst. I think its impossible to be worst;)

As long as we win right?
Good night all, i'm sure my daughter will be up early screaming for waffles.

Yeah and even a lot of the players commented in the offseason about how much easier CLK's offense was. Coaches and players didn't seem to buy into his system. Looks like Clawson had the hardest OC job in the country last year.
Here was the problem!

Looking at the stats Clawson's of the Bowling Green QB -
Tyler Sheehan
104/152 68.4% compl. 928 yds (310/game, projected 3,700 for the season) 4TDS 1INT. Against NO 1-AA competition, against teams 3 teams (incl. Missouri) that where more highly ranked than them. 2 of 3 games were on the road as well. They almost beat missouri in mizzou

- He also had as much time as Crompton to learn the system.
- He is younger than Crompton.

It may be early, but given what we have seen from Clawson's guy (as well as his track record at Richmond and everywhere else) combined with Crompton's 2009 performances, i think we may owe Mr. David Clawson an apology. It seems like we have QB problem, not a coordinator problem. Like Gary Danielson said: "any high school QB in America can run the rollouts and short passing game the Kiffin has designed for Jonathan Crompton".

Ironically, Crompton may have saved the program. It wouldn't have mattered if CPF hired Bill Walsh last year, the results would have been the same given the QB. I think we all agree that it was time for a change, some fresh blood. After the Florida game we all kind of felt that we were never going to beat them again under status quo. Thanks to JC's performances last year, we now have Kiffin who is rocking.

There were many on here who never doubted he was a good coach, myself included.

I hope he does well.

Some players just dont pan out! Thats why to me 5 star beside a HS players name means jack! Crompton has size and he has some talent, he just doesnt have the confidence or heart to be great! And we owe Dave Clawson nothing! All he proved is he is not an SEC OC! I could care less what he has done at Richmond or BG, its not Tenn and its not the SEC. Last year was a black mark on this program, but it also got us an entire new stafff that we've have craved for years. It will turn out to be a blessing in disguise!!

One way to look at it, if there hadn't been a Clawson or Crompton, there would be no Kiffin here right now.

With Clawson's success at D2 and so far at Bowling Green, I think it's fairly apparent that Fulmer and Crompton had more to do with the offense failing than DC.

I hadn't heard about the Fulmer changing 30% of the plays that were called, however I did hear a rumor that he told Clawson that he couldn't implement his system alone and must incorporate some of what Fulmer wanted along with it. Whatever happened, it sucked.

If you haven't read On Rocky Top by Clay Travis you should do so. That offense had Fulmers signature all over it. DC didn't work out here but that doesn't mean he's a bad coach, he got a HC job right away and Fulmer didn't

Well hope is all you have because the evidence suggests that Stephens is not an upgrade to Crompton, just a different QB.

Crompton won the competition. That's the scary thing.

Some people crumble under pressure. Its very reasonable to say that Crompton is a Heisman Caliber Practice Player. He has all the tangible's you want in a QB. Big, strong, fast, can throw the ball hard. He has no intangibles that you want. A good field general, the ability to read a defense, ability to eye down one receiver and see the open one in your peripheral vision.

Maybe so, but almost all our players, including O linemen, said they had to take a split second to think what they were supposed to do. I believe Clawson is successful at BG because:

He has scaled his mind numbing stuff back

His talent at that lower level is better comparision wise

His OC is calling the plays that work

He no longer wears orange.........which is a good thing!

I still say he sucks!

So funny. I sure He does not care at all what you think of Him.

We don't owe Clawson anything. Last year's offense was the worst offense I've seen at Tennessee. Yeah he might be doing well this year, but maybe it's because he learned from a few of his mistakes. It wasn't all Crompton. Under Clawson we saw an offensive line that gave up 4 sacks and had a 1000 yard rusher turn into the worst O-line in the SEC.

I disagree, if you look at Clawson's play calling last year you will clearly see that he was very inexperienced in real games. Here are a few examples. UCLA, we were running over them like crazy and he chose to throw 40 times instead of just running the ball and against UF wew were on the goal line twice and he never went for a qb sneak. he played many stupid plays and we went away with squat. The only time we did score on UF was when he decided to do a yes a qb sneak.

Now did Crompton help Clawson at all? no none at all

Who cares we needed Fulmer gone anyway. he lacked discipline and enthusiasm. We are rnaked 6th in the nation right now for less penalties. Shows discipline which we lacked with Fulmer

stats tell the story that Stephens played better last year. I also thought he played better, but that is one man's subjective opinion who has no influence over the decision.

BTW, didn't elect HOPE as our President?

guys, i agree, Crompton and Clawson were blessings in disguise. It allowed us to bring in Kiffin. Otherwise we would have been a perennial 7 win and would have turned into South Carolina
