I mentioned in another thread that a Chattanooga kid, Will Healy, was a junior QB at Richmond, and that he thought Clawson a good hire for us.

Here are his comments in their entirety...This was back on Tuesday..
Former Boyd-Buchanan star Will Healy, now a Richmond quarterback, said he understands why UT might want Clawson.

“He’s an extremely intelligent guy,” said Healy, who just completed his junior season as Richmond’s backup quarterback. “He taught me more than I could have imagined I would ever know about offense.”

Healy said Clawson likes balanced offenses with running backs “he could depend on so he could run play-action.” He said Clawson’s offenses are multiple, with I-formation and four-wide-receiver spread capabilities.

Clawson, 40, often sends quarterbacks to the line of scrimmage with as many as six possible play calls.

“He depends on you as his quarterback to check into the right play on any play,” Healy said. “He would also make sure you understood why you ran every play. He didn’t just want you calling a play. He expected you to know what would be effective in any situation.”

“Personally, I don’t want him to leave,” Healy said. “He’s one of the brightest young minds in college football right now, in my opinion. He will no doubt be an extremely successful I-A head coach very soon.

“He’s also a very personable guy who is really involved in the booster clubs and in the community and someone that the fans identify with and like. He’s really turned our program around.”

Very nice read. Things like this do tend to get you excited.

Well JC will be happy...he'll have plays to check off to and maybe the coach will let him do it (as opposed to what happened in the LSU game )

It's sucks to lose Cutty, but it will be nice to get a new flavor of Volunteer offense; it's long over due.

I haven't been this excited about UT football since......hell I can't remember being this excited, not knocking Cutcliff but when CPF rehired him I felt like we were taking our sister to the prom, no nix that our old Aunt Fanny to the prom. She's a good ole girl but not the most exciting dance partner.

i just thought of someting and posted it in another thread.........this will be the first time, in almost 30 years, we will have someone running the offense that wasn't under Johnny Majors staff at one point.....

kind of puts things in perspective for me.

exactly, no inbreeding in this hire at all.....this is like being the first guy in school to go out with the hot new girl who transfered in from out of state, don't know what to expect but love the possibilities.

I agree 100% and I love the Aunt Fanny analogy.

After reading his Bio, I went to the individual games to review his play calling and success. He seems to be very balanced on offense. Time of possession was also a key and quick Strike capability. Will throw on First Down and will throw it down field. This would be I guess Philosphy, unless he was calling plays from the sidelines at Richmond which if he was will bode better for us. I think he will be the right guy at the right time for us. Should be an immediate impact for us also. Already Working with Drayton will be a plus because of their relationship and the ability to think along the same lines. Of Course Scott will be in that same category and if Clawson did not believe in him he would not be coming. So there must be a lot of competance in Scott's ability.

Do you think that these hires will give us a Bump in Recruitting.

Don't know if this has been posted, but here are the contract details.

Link

The Volunteers have offered him a three-deal worth $1.2 million, a considerable increase over his package at UR even with a recent deal that would pay him approximately the same amount but over five years.
