Its almost funny that I was just thinking about this. I almost think I would shudder less with Clausen throwing the ball than I do with Crompton throwing the ball.

And that's good enough to pretty much cover the whole question. Let me also throw in that one was a Fr and the other a RSJr.

I have no doubt that Clausen was/is better I just remember all the heat Clausen got last year. Either way I still think any Tennessee's softball players or golf team would make better qb's than Crompton.

give me Casey and we're 4-0 right now

...maybe we lose a close one to florida, but CC, like him or not, exuded confidence, and it transferred to his team mates and the field. He also loved going up against the gators. Had he come pre Peyton CC might be considerably more well thought of...he had tough acts to follow in Shuler, Peyton and Tee.

As to the original question, at this stage of the season Crompton looks worse than Jimmy last year...who had very little help from his O Line.

Jimmy was a TRUE freshman last year so mistakes were expected as He learned the offense...Crompton is a 4 year junior, no excuses

No question that Jimmy Clausen is a more talented QB (i.e. YouTube - FANtastic football clips No. 18 - Jimmy Clausen).

I would also take Casey or Rick over JC as well. JC may have more athletic ability than Rick or Casey but at least they could manage the game and make adjustments. I hate to give up on a player 4 games into the season, but this is very close to rock bottom. Why not give Stephens this week to get integrated into the system and then throw him to the wolves in Athens and see what happens? Could it possibly be any worse (a rhetorical question by the way)!

Here is my thought process. A comparison of our two in question.

Throwing the ball:
Jimmy: A spiral.
Jon: A spiral.... in the dirt.

Running the ball
Jimmy: Runs for 4 yards, and slides to avoid contact, insuring his brain cells.
Jon: Runs for 9 yards, and gets knocked into oblivion, avoiding serious brain damage because like the scarecrow, he has no brain.

Handing the ball off
Jimmy: Learned this when he was 7.
Jon: Waste of time, lets just go long.

Press conference
Jimmy: Humble, quiet, team player.
Jon: Resembles Russell Hammond in "Almost There" saying "I am a Golden God." and enjoys telling the fans they're not needed.

Intelligence
Jimmy: Can effectively operate a playbook, and read defenses.
Jon: Has had our playbook stripped to 25% of plays, can't read defenses, and has a reading level of a 7th grader.

In a close fought match.... the title of better QB, is Jimmy Clausen.

Last years Jimmy Clausen was 5 times better than Crompton is now. This years Jimmy Clausen looks like a Heisman candidate compared to Crompton.
