Clark Lea Given an Extension

Assuming he stays at Vandy, next year will tell the tale of whether he is actually a good coach.
While I generally agree with this, I think he’s shown he’s a good coach. Hes benefitted by having Pavia, clearly, but I’ve been impressed with what he’s done on both sides of the ball.

Just how good of a coach he is I think gets proven next year.

I agree with this. I think this is the best move for him, and I'm not sure I buy he's a serious candidate for the bigger jobs, not yet at least. He coudl easily go back to same ol Vandy next season without Pavia.

He gives me more Bobby Johnson vibes than James Frankln, though obviously he's more successful than Johnson was.

He’s a Nashville native and Vandy alum, and is currently beloved at his up and coming Alma Mater. I don’t blame him for holding onto that situation over the cluster in Gainesville with higher expectations and (imo) a worse quality of living than in Nashville

10-2 and in the Playoff mix for Vandy is certainly an upward trend for that program. obviously.

It's a shame we can't hold fair conversations.

Lea was enough a known commodity that he was offered a P4/5 head coaching job. He's improved the program. I thought the purpose was to get good players to help you win.

I still want the Vols make a good statement on Saturday.

Notice we haven’t heard a word about Heupel getting a raise or extension. I hope I’m wrong but I have a feeling he goes somewhere else after this year and all that talk about him being Whites boy and all that go right out the dam window. Again I hope I’m wrong but I feel like we would’ve heard by now if he was staying.

Going to be 9-3 after tomorrow!

But even if Vandy were to win - I don't see them making the playoffs. It will take one or more of the 5 SEC teams in the top 10 losing because the SEC is not getting 6 teams in and they are not jumping A&M, Georgia, Ole Miss, Oklahoma or Bama if all those teams win. Then if Texas were to beat A&M, A&M would still be above Vandy and Texas beat Vandy and would push Vandy to #7.

I think folks keep mentioning them because of the story not the reality of whether they really have a chance. In reality Vandy needs lots of help from other teams.

I am definitely curious to see what he does without Pavia next year. The decision to stay is definitely interesting, as the obly decent Vandy coach in recent memory (Franklin) absolutely used it as a stepping stone to bigger things. It will be interesting to see if stability translates to success in Nashville

He got an extension last year. Where do you think he is going? Auburn? USF? N. Texas? Maybe PSU? Can't see him going to UF.

Good point. Unless you’re single there’s more to be considered than just football. I’d sure take Nashville over Gainesville if I had a family.

He got an extension in August and why would he announce he’s staying if no one is coming after him?

Looks like Lea got the NIL resources he wanted and Vandy ought to be able to compete in the years ahead. Florida would've been a step down if it was on the table. It was nice leverage for him to get a raise. The past doesn't matter anymore. Anybody can compete if the staff is competent and they have money to spend.
