All you folks saying get rid of them obviously don't look at any of the pics that the recruits post online.

Practically all of the pics the recruits post online after there visits are of them wearing the Smokey Grays.

Where you like them or not the kids/players do. I assume you all forgot they were voted the best alternate uniform in college football a couple of years ago.

If I'm not mistaken the players asked to wear them in the bowl game a year ago.

There are 7 other uniforms to have bad memories with this past season. We also beat UGA, Florida and Nebraska in those smoky greys. They aren’t going anywhere.

Seems like the players and recruits really like the smokey grays.

We keep hearing that with no supporting information. Has any recruit passed on Tennessee because of the traditional O&W uniform? How about Alabama, Penn St, ... others? Does everyone really think that the recruiting photos aren't staged - that the uniforms weren't selected for recruit photo shoots by the Jones staff?

I hate the gray uniforms for two distinct reasons. Tradition, tradition, tradition. Any Butchism should be exorcised and removed from Tennessee forever - just a piece of trash history that should have been avoided - absolutely nothing to be memorialized.

Personally, I think the gray has an entirely different purpose - sales. Gray will always be an easier jacket or windbreaker sale than orange or red or several other colors; associate it with a football uniform and then you've tied "instant tradition" to fashion. I guess if you prefer a dead, monochrome world, then gray is your ideal.

2. The next time we wear them, the game broadcasters will be sure to bring up “the last time Tennessee wore these uniforms was a disaster.” Why would we subject our program to that sort of national negativity?

3. I’m not here to promote gimmicks or slogans.
I don’t care about fantasy uniforms or setting attendance records at the Battle of Bristol against some mediocre team, or anything remotely similar.

4. I’m here to build this football program, win games, win the division, and win the conference.

Exactly. The players and recruits like these. Most schools have alternates.

The players and recruits also liked checker Neyland which was BTW started by the fans - but I know some will say can that too.

Let's just no longer play Rocky Top or do the Vol Walk etc.

So tell all the current players to go elsewhere. So give back the Outback win to Northwestern - forget about Berry's run at the end of the game. Give back the Hail Mary to UGA - let them win. Forget about the Battle of Bristol.

The Smokey Greys are loved by the players and were voted one of the best UNIs 2 years ago. They are something that attracts kids and I say you let the team vote on it.

I personally wish they would have worn them more!

I honestly don't buy that recruits care that much about alternate uniforms. I mean Bama has worn the same 2 boring colors for how long now? I don't see them having a recruit problem. Same with UGA since Smart's been there and USC as well.

Recruits want to get to the NFL more than anything else. If they think a team that wears pink and purple will make them a first rounder then that's where they'll go.

I can't take credit for this comparison. Another board member who's much more clever than I initially pointed out the similarities, but this pretty much sums up my thoughts on that gray uniform.

Here's a thought. Start competeting for and winning championships, the kids won't care about the alternate uniforms compared to the rings and trophies.
