CJH replacement

I’ve always liked CJH but the last few weeks have been dismal, save the win vs a crap Florida team. It’s almost like he doesn’t care what happens anymore. No coaching effort in second halfs, etc. it’s gotten old. Something needs to change
You obviously didn't listen to the Vandy post-game video. He was devastated. You could feel the disappointment in the way the game turned out. There is no way he doesn't care about UT. He is all Vol. He needs to make changes, and hopefully he will. One of his biggest problems is that he is loyal to his staff. Weird that loyalty can be a problem. JMHO

Really? We could "feel" it? Wow

People even thinking about CJH's seat being mildly warm are fooling themselves at this point. Considering the unmitigated disaster that Nico was, the admin is not likely to make any significant signals of displeasure.

I can also tell you flatly, we do NOT want to be in the coaching search this year. SEC is loading up and becoming even harder than it has always been.

I mean seriously, Vandy could quite possibly be in the playoffs - and could have a heisman winner - I mean, if that doesnt say where SEC football is now, I dont know what does.

Heup DOES need to look at his position coaches and S&C though. We honestly need something out there - play was uninspiring and too many injuries.
exactly. 2 starting corners out, Boo Carter gone, and we took a transfer portal QB in spring of this year. You can't evaluate a coach without taking all that into account. That being said, Huepel needs to do some serious evaluation. Offense was pretty good but why did defense regress that much. I know we lost some NFL guys on the Dline but still.

CJH is .712 at Tennessee. Is that "acceptable?" Probably not for most fans, myself included. But, he has done much better than the other two clowns, and the non-clown bailed after a year. So, if you are going to fire him and get a "proven winner," good luck. How many "proven winners" have been hired and fired since JPH? If he is our version of Mark Richt, I wish I knew who our Kirby is supposed to be.

I am not going to say I will bail if they dump Heupel, because I know I won't, but I am serious when I say that if they fire him after a couple of more 8-4 seasons, I will have to write off any chance for Vol success in my life time. Maybe I should support the firing for the benefit of my grandkids? :)

The one silver lining to getting blown out at home by Vandy (I can’t believe i actually had to type that phrase out) is perhaps this makes it impossible to gloss over the obvious deficiencies in the Defense.
When you lose games narrowly you can always point to tweaks that would have made a difference. But this was an absolutely inexcusable and irredeemable five alarm failure.
Heupel has all of the cover and reason he needs to make a change. If he doesn’t; then I start to worry.

He's obviously wanting to be fired for that buyout. Then he moves on and resets his clock elsewhere. Yep that's his plan.
Thank you, always appreciated half-assed sarcasm in response to a serious question.

Josh could barely frame his responses to softball questions from the media. His team had embarrassed itself in front of a nationwide audience. There was clearly a huge difference in team performance, offense and defense, from one half to another. Why?

He was clearly distraught. Blindsided by what just happened and, I suspect, having a gut wrenching realization that he would personally have to make unexpected changes to the program.
If you couldn't see a man in agony....I don't know what to tell you.

Majors was fired in the early 90’s for going 9-3. He left the team stacked with players.
Quite a different situation. Johnny went around publicly chirping about his contract during that last offseason and was wearing out people in the admin. Then he comes back after his heart surgery in the middle of the 1992 season and they stunk after that. Also had his young, hotshot assistant (Phil) angling for the job behind the scenes who they thought would bolt for a HC job if they didn't promote him.
