CJH replacement

What do you consider enough leeway. This is year 5, and admit it or not, we are a horrible football team. If we wait until year 7-8 and we’re still here, it’s too late. We will be forced to start over again. For once I want the university of my state to get out in front and be pro active
We can have a discussion when he produces a losing season. But if we make it to year 8 and we’re still having 10+ wins every other year then really there is nothing to discuss.

Yep, you're right. I used the UT website, and must have fat-fingered the calculator. Using ESPN, I get 45-19 overall, and 24-16 in the SEC. Far as I can tell, the Top 25 numbers are good.

So at a 70% clip overall, 60% against the SEC, and 44% against Top 25 teams, we've obviously got the guy that Danny White talked about at his introductory press conference...5 years ago.

It's on YouTube. Go watch it. Great stuff.
Lane Kiffin is 10-11 against top 25 teams at Ole Miss at the time they played, which means he has coached against four fewer top 25 teams than Heupel while coaching a year longer. He is 3-2 in bowl games there, which Heupel will match if he wins this season, again with one less season on the job.

For the record, I’m madder than hell about losing to Vandy but I’m not a fan of this thread. Heupel needs to grow a pair, fire Halzle and Banks, and start acting like he actually gives a **** about creating an elite football team.

Which tells me LSU just paid for way more than they are going to get. Right?

No...Lane will be smart enough to hire a competent DC. I stand corrected.

As someone said, he’ll have to really knock it outta the park to have a better roster at LSU than he did at OM last year and lost 3 games.

He got alittle lucky this year. Ark fumbled late deep in OM territory that saved that game. Also his starting QB got hurt or he may never found Chambliss until it was too late.

Programs often fire good coaches because they want greatness. What they usually get is instability. History shows that replacing a coach who is winning eight to ten games per year does not usually lead to improvement. It usually leads to a decline.
Josh Heupel already has Tennessee winning, already has a modern offense that works, already has recruiting momentum, and already rebuilt a broken culture. The idea that Tennessee can just swap him out for a guaranteed upgrade ignores twenty years of evidence.
If we want a higher ceiling, the smarter path is to build stability, improve staff hires, strengthen recruiting, and keep developing the roster we have. The SEC is too competitive to gamble on a coaching reset when the historical odds so strongly favor regression.
We didn’t hire good coaches when Phi Fulmer was fired and you saw the wilderness we wandered through for years.

It is year 5 here. He is incapable of creating an elite football team. Does anyone think that he’s gonna wake up tomorrow and all of a sudden be an elite coach???

We may never know because he doesn’t have the balls to fire his incompetent assistants and hire top tier coordinators.

Coaches can evolve. Orgeron woke up in 2019 and became one of the best coaches in the nation. To think Heupel can’t get better is foolish.

What... if he leaves, we'll get blown out by Vanderbilt? ... meaning... Vandy throws 2 interceptions and THEN blows us out... all in the same game?

ok.
If he leaves we also get blown out by -Alabama, Georgia, and Florida too you know.
Only Tennessee fans are spoiled so much that they would even consider firing the only TN coach to beat Bama since Fulmer.
