CJH gonna be the one

Just for kicks, would you rather, 10-2 next year with 30+ loss to UGA and Alabama or 9-3 with loss to Florida, Alabama, and Kentucky.

I’m bored. Forgive me.
I never go got these what if or would rather ploys. It makes no sense. You try to win every game regardless of whom you are playing.

I never go got these types of responses to things you simply don’t understand or don’t agree with. Just scroll on my guy.

I think people are more likely to think that CJH is the ONE because he’s a decent human being, myself included. A part of me is wishing and hoping he’s the one because he’s a great guy. He went 7-5 and had recruited pretty well so far but so did the last two coaches. One big difference I see, outside of being more like able, is the potential I saw on offense. We were able to score quickly against any team, including the big boys. I thought this offense was a gimmick at first but I now believe CJH is for real and is a great offensive innovator.
Lets not lose sight of how disciplined and mentally tough our players were. There is some real coaching going on in Knoxville for a change.

The big intangible differences between the last several coaches and Heupel….the team came out of the gate ready to play (maybe not as much against Vandy), the coaches actually made halftime adjustments, and the players played 60 minutes until the final whistle. That mental attitude, combined with the excellent teaching and play calling by the coaches means we finally have a real football team, not a bunch of guys who happen to wear the same uniform

Tennessee Vol fans are waaay to harsh on themselves.

Literally no other coach has broken down the Saban wall. He has a winning record against every coach he's went against that is still active.
Will Heupel win a game against Bama?
I don't think so. Not while Saban is there.

But 9-3, 10-2 type seasons I would be more than happy with
Well, who knows what's going to happen? What I'm most proud of is Heupel changing the culture, the team not quitting, and I believe, really, over-achieving, everything considered. Putting up points like crazy, not married (stubborn) to stick with a QB that's not getting it done (JG) , in this case Milton. I just think coach has got the best he could out of what he had. With Hooker coming back, I would expect the team to improve overall with these recruits. That's my two cents. Not looking for miracles, but consistency and improvement, building on what they did this year.

That one's a no brainer. I can't stomach another loss to UK ever again. That's when you know you're scraping the bottom.

Man, I am truly hopeful about CJH.

But part of me is wondering how the college football landscape is going to change with NIL stuff, the transfer portal, etc. … and if that change is going to render it even more difficult to get back to the top. The rest of the SEC has been standing on our necks for a while now. We picked an absolutely horrible time to enter a period of extended mediocrity and ineptitude (not that there’s EVER a good time to do so).

Who breaks down this Saban wall…

it’s what Volunteers do
Might want to step back and take a deep breath. Don't get me wrong I like him and I'm encouraged, but we've tried to convince ourselves that we've found "the one" as our coach for a good while now. Great start, but let's keep in mind that it's one 7 win season. It's not his roster of recruits(Hooker specifically) and he actually believed Milton was the answer at qb for us. Milton was HIS choice. Let's see how he builds this roster and put a couple more seasons in the books before we anoint the guy. Color me hopeful but somewhat reserved at this point. To think he's going to take Saban down anytime soon.....mmm....I'm not putting money on that one.

I believe we’re definitely on the way up. There’s no denying it. If you could choose any skill set in a coach to build a team around I’d say give me a coach who’s qbs are always good. Well…that’s coach Heupel
Lots of coaches can say that, but it's essential for sure and we have it for sure and we have not in a while for absolutely certainty. It was a fun year to watch. Even the games where we ran out of gas. I think the other two keys are the ability to assemble a strong defensive staff and assemble a championship calibur team. I have felt from the beginning that he accomplished the former of these other requirements, and I am confident he is slowly approaching the latter of the latter. I think a wild card is the ability to coach up less coveted talent in order to produce equivalent talent vs recruit blue chip talent. It seems as though most of this staff is able to coach up talent, and they seem to be better than average recruiters. I think as/if they continue to coach up 3 & 4 stars to compete with 5 stars, they will land more 5star recruits.

All that said, I can't help but think about our basketball program and how much more I enjoyed watching Schofield and his crew play vs these star studded teams we have had over the past few years. Seems that model has caught up with Kentucky and other programs as well. It's hard to build a deep, talented team from Seniors all the way down anymore, because the 5* jump to the next level early and other programs poach your staff.

I am very curious to see what Huepel and his staff is able to accomplish with mostly 3* and 4* players from here on. What they did with what they have last year was phenomenal. Can he disprove the model of needing multiple top 5 recruiting classes to win the SEC and go to the playoffs? I am guessing there have been a few programs to make it to the playoffs without constant top 5 recruiting classes, but none from the SEC I don't believe?

He doesn't have a winning record vs Dabo. 2-2.

we don't hear a lot about it, but I loved the ease with which he put points on the scoreboard with Bama! Then just ran out of steam and couldn't stop them! BUT WATCH OUT NICK, IT'S COMING!
