they used to have good salesmen but once they stopped the commission, people stopped caring. i know internet did hurt them, but best buy seems to be doing well.

I worked for Best Buy for sometime. They dont make much money as most people think. Most of their profits is made from warranties, car/home theater installations, and those stupid magazine sales we had to promote. They are a very stable company, but in no way floating in money.

i worked for circuit city while in school, when they paid commissions. i worked with guys that made 6 figures a year. they could sell sand to camels. i worked part time and made a bunch of money. now they all work hourly and get no commissions, even hey on the warranties.

ya even at sports stores they get paid hourly. no one cares if u buy something or not, not affecting their money at all.

for full time guys it was really stressfull and people stole sales all the time. even now it's depressing buying something retail when you have a really good idea of how much mark up there is on speakers, receivers and tv's. i know speakers and receive had any where from 40-75% mark up.

like many brick and mortar stores, CC's prices just weren't competitive on a lot of things. A video card that would cost $50 at Newegg or Tiger Direct would cost $150 at CC.

B and M's are going to have to realize that if they want to succeed, they're going to have to learn how to compete with online stores. The convenience of walking in to a store and walking out with your product is getting pushed aside by sitting around in your bathrobe and waiting for UPS or FedEX to deliver it.

my biggest fear is if breaks. nothing worse than having to mail something back because it messed up.

i bet we'll get some great deals at CC now.

While I am thinking about this, what in the world is keeping Radio Shack alive? I am seriously puzzled at how they keep their doors open.

I think there is a "radio shack generation". Once they die, so will radio shack.

Not sure why you are blaming Bush. Circuit City was mismanaged right into the ground.

Also - I'm calling bs on you working with sales people making 6 figures at Circuit City.

i was joking about Bush.

I'm not joking about that. there were guys in the audio and video dept that made very close to it. maybe not exactly 6 figures but extremely close. during the Christmas holiday, guys would make 3k-5k a day in commissions. i mean they worked 12hrs a day, 6 days a week but yes they really did.

3K-5K per day for 6 days a week is some serious coin. I guess they averaged 4k per day for a month. That's roughly 90k. did they have another job for the rest of the year?
