I'm not sure why everyone is so concerned with Cinci....

what? Because they hammered AP??? That means nothing. I assure you Florida isn't scared of us because we hammered Montana. It's all relative.

We have better players, coaches, facilities, tradition, conference, and the HOME FIELD advantage.

No that's Couch. :)

JK

I've sorta back tracked on that statement. I'd had a few beers that night haha. I'll give Mo Couch the benefit of the doubt and accept his injury as real.

I heard Jimmy Hyams say he believes Montana's defense may be better than Cincinnati's.

he just might be correct,,Montana has a stud middle linebacker. That kid was in on almost every run stop. And their front d-line certainly held their own.

I saw that. His name was McSurdy I think. He was credited with a team-leading 9.5 tackles.

I bet the Cincy fans are saying, " Just wait til Hunter meets McSurdy across the middle!"
Scary stuff...

As a Bearcat fan, the secondary is our biggest concern. Last year we had zero depth on defense and were playing a lot of first timers and our best players were in on every snap and by the 4th quarter (And late in the season), they were toast. You can't ask 300-pounders to play 80+ snaps a game every game). We could not pressure the QB and QBs often had 10 seconds to find WRs, which no CB is going to deal with.

Plus this is the 1st time in 4 or 5 years that we are not changing defensive coordinators or switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 or back again. The players have said how huge it is to work on the nuances of the defense and not learn a brand new defense (We saw lots of busted coverage, etc last season). Definitely should help improve the defense (We have quite a few guys that in the past have put up big numbers in tackles and sacks and were key contributors back in the BCS days as freshmen and sophomores).

We do have some depth in the secondary this year (Got one of our best back from injury) and lots of guys got some experience last year. But our size scares me against your crazy athletic WRs. I still think there will be growing pains, though I did see a lot of improvement against AP as far as being in better position, etc.

Hopefully the depth we have on the DL (And Stewart back to the DL) will allow our starters to spend more energy getting to the QB and not worrying about conserving energy since it looks like we have 8 guys to rotate amongst, a few of which look like they will be playing on Sundays in the future.

We definitely will need to put up points in this one and need to get on the board quickly to somewhat try to keep the crowd less than frenzied.

Let me know when our tradition, facilities and conference make a tackle Saturday.

They have alot of speed on offense with with those smaller players. I hope we have learned to wrap up on tackles and not try to just push them to the ground like in years past.
