Cimaglia to the portal

I'm going to transfer but I'll throw this quote in my farewell tweet

I want to say thank you for everything, Volnation. You will always be a part of my life and as always, go Big Orange.”

Is it just me or does he really think Volnation cares enough and wants to be a part of his life since he is leaving? No, we don't want you to root for us while you jump ship.

Kind of like when your breaking up with someone and say...it's not you it's me.....

Maybe I just had a bad day.....

Did you guys forget that he "opted out" the last few games of the season? I am not surprised. His replacement did quite well from what I remember.

As I recall, Cimaglia played hurt for a while, then opted out when it seemed like he couldn't play well with the injury, even though he tried, since Pruitt sent him onto the field.

OMG...our kicker has entered the portal! Will the program survive it? I'm not sure I'll watch another game after losing such a program defining player. Did he twit about it? That hashtag thing and all?

Shame on Pruitt if he forced him to play while injuried. I definitely could understand leaving if he was still the Coach. I wouldn't want to play for Coach Pruitt either.... But he is gone now, thank goodness!

Maybe there is more to the story that we don't know

Gave a like not for the post, but for the avatar. Probably my favorite Vol of all time. The stories of his days in the NFL are just a blast. A man among men he was.

He wasn't exactly automaglia this year.

I caught some kind of vibe about him this year.
I mean, him "opting out" when he did struck a nerve with me.
Just very odd timing.
I kind of felt he quit the team, or maybe just quit Pruitt, but something definitely struck a chord with that.

Today, many college football players tend to have allegiance to a coach rather than a program. There's nothing wrong with players who choose this type of allegiance. However, players who have an allegiance to a program tend to have more at stake as they represent more than just a program, but they also represent many fans. I remember back in the 60's when players talked about coming to Tennessee to play football as an honor to represent a respected institution. Many players back then had no idea if they had a future career in professional football and many didn't talk about their football future. They were there to play college football. Today, recruiting services offer their expert evaluation of players to play at the next level and it has taken away the focus of many players in college to focus more on a future in professional ball. Traditionally, players played college football for their love of the game and to represent their chosen university. Now, it has become a business for a financially-secured future for players. The money back in the 50's and 60's for most professional football players was minuscule compared to today's salaries. It would be nice if we could bring back the allegiance and the love of the game to a program rather than a coach. The very reason many fans have liked college football over professional football is the love of playing the game over playing for a paycheck.

Regressed badly
It’s sad. Just about across the board, they regressed. If they could see what we’ve seen every Sat, I would think they would welcome new coaches. I know...they, well some, watch film and I know some of them loved Pruitt, but he wasn’t advancing any of them on the field. It used to blow my mind how bad even talented guys could look. You can like the person, but still question their performance.

Not odd at all; he was injured, and unable to play well enough.

After a really good couple years, he actually had one of the worst years for a kicker we’ve seen in a while. Fare well young man, hope you rediscover your talents elsewhere.
