Cignetti

Who said anything about running the table? You're just making crap up now.

This is about your idiotic statement saying playing a weak schedule helps them beat the hell of better teams in the playoffs. You have a lot of balls telling me I'm delusional when that genius logic just came out of your mouth.

This is about winning in the playoffs head to head; you're bending over backwards to try to make excuses why Alabama got their ass kicked and why TAMU and Ole Miss both couldn't beat such a weak team like Miami. It couldn't possibly be that Indiana is just... *GASP* good? That TAMU might thave been incredibly overrated? That just maybe....the SEC wasn't as good as you're acting like. The SEC won 4 postseason games, 2 of them over another SEC team.

You've about to OD on the copium.
Yes I have a lot of balls, just ask your mom. You are delusional. The SEC over all still has the best players, there is no conference other than us that plays tougher competition week and week out. Go look at indiana’s (who is a great team) schedule. It’s an absolute joke.

Ok so you’re telling me that indiana and the others would have run the table with an SEC schedule? You’re absolutely delusional.
Yes, Indiana could have run the table with this schedule:
H-UGA
A-MS State
H-Arky
A-Bama
A-KY
H-OU
A-Fla
H-Vandy

He's likely to lose the championship game to Miami and never make it back. Stop being prisoner of the moment. He's a good coach but this could be just a fluke run and not an indicator of a generational coach.

You sure about that because they have looked about as dominant as you can get. Miami has a good defense but Beck is mistake prone and I’m willing to bet they get at least a couple of picks. Mendoza is also on an incredible hot streak. Indiana is just executing at an insanely high level.

Phenomenal might be an understatement. Bloomington freakin IN. How do you get quality players to go there? Can’t be just money. History of IU football can be summed up in 2 sentences. Big 10 champs in ‘45, ‘67 and now 2025. 15 bowl games and the playoffs the past 2 seasons. Immediately before Cignetti, IU was 2–10 overall (0–9 Big Ten) in ‘21, 3–9 overall (1–8 Big Ten) in ‘23 before hiring Cignetti. His 1st season at IU began with the first 10-0 start in program history. Love him or hate him, show me a better turn around than this one. Freakin’ IU!

Howard Schnellenberger at Miami in the 80s might be the only thing that compares. Rapid rise from obscurity to just flat out donkey punching teams and creating a new powerhouse program.

Nah. You may be right that he caught lightning in a bottle this year and everything went right, but he’s a great coach. That team plays disciplined, aggressive, and doesn’t let up. Something we’ve not seen in years. That’s coaching. Not all luck.

I woul remove the "with" out of the Dolly Parton clause...just sayin.
Maybe he thought that would be a little too "on the nose," if you will.

SoS isn't being debated. You tried to explain away a 35-point beatdown with SoS. You really think that SoS can account for that? Alabama was 35 points worth of tired?

There's rumors floating around that Indiana hasn't been aboveboard on their tactics this year. Several X users are now saying that IU supposedly hacked into the software all teams now use to film their practices in order to spy on their opponents to give themselves a leg up at game time.

I'm not buying it. There are two reasons for Indiana's success.

1. Curt Cignetti can evaluate talent and establish team discipline and "buy in."

2. Mark Cuban is rich af and misses being a wheel at a sports team so.......

also, it's not just Indiana. Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech have more or less adopted Cignetti's model with a lot of success. that was the best Vandy team in anyone's living memory. it's a loophole that's available to anyone who wants to spend some bucks on grad transfers and 5th year seniors.

Right. Vandy got Pavia back and some extra money that spilled out of alumni pockets for a "Carpe Diem" season.

Is it sustainable to recruit old guys every year? I dunno. I think Cignetti is recruiting much higher level targets now with Cuban's money and their momentum.

3-9 in 23, to national championship game in 2 seasons - Absolutely amazing what happens when you get the right coach!
Keep in mind Indiana has ZERO five star players. Mendosa was a 2-star out of high school. I heard one commentator say he has a knack for recognizing talent. It reminds me when Herb Brooks had his share of critics when putting together his "Miracle on Ice" team. Brooks said, "I'm not looking for the best players. I'm looking for the RIGHT players."

Yes. The software definitely predicated the Oregon QB was going to throw behind the receiver on that first play.

Exactly 💯

Agree. Cignetti learned from Saban. He seems more of a "discipline and fundamentals" coach, the kind that can look at a player and say, "Ok this kid has the qualities you can't coach or is too difficult to coach (awareness, drive, a "team first" attitude, humility/selflessness, etc), but may have some flawed fundamentals that make them an underrated player and could be fixed easily with the right coaching.

Heupel may be more of a "system" coach and tries to recruit kids with the best talent which fits his system. Just two different philosophies. I remember someone told me years ago Saban had a "shi***" offensive system but just outworked and out-disciplined everybody and were so fundamentally sound it didn't matter what system they used.

I like Heupel and all but we need to make Cignetti the most obscene coaching contract offer known to man.

5 years, 200 mil;
His own Memphis Riverboat;
A mountain top mansion in the Smokeys;
Induction into the Grand Ole Opry;
A monthly orgy with the Titan's cheerleaders;
Motorboating with Dolly Parton and
Prima Nocta throughout the State.
What a joke Cig and the Indiana money has made of the NFL Minor League called College Football.
The average age of this Championship Squad is 28 and their salaries are higher than most of the Coaching Staff.
I will give Cig one credit. For beating the system at their game!
That he is good at that. He has assembled a good team! No doubt about that! When are you going to understand under the system as it exists in College today, it is VERY difficult to rank anything that goes on with assigning number$$$$ spent on all the players. Everyone said OHIO State had the best College team Money could buy. Indy and Cig just took that to a whole new level!!!
