Cignetti in the SEC?

Beating 6-loss Penn State on the road, not a big win.

Beating 7-loss UF at home after a failed Hail Mary attempt, huge statement win.

Beating 5-loss UF at home in OT two years later, an even larger huge gigantic statement win because 5 losses in the SEC is like going undefeated in the AFC North.

In conclusion, Cignetti sucks

Indiana would’ve been 9-3 or 10-2 with our schedule.

I agree. Probably 10-2. Those Big10 teams are so lucky to get to hit the playoffs fresh and healthy every season after 10games vs teams whose 4year recruiting average is between #30 and #80. SEC teams show up beat to Hell and missing Bluechips that are hurt...after playing 4-6 ranked teams usually with 2 of them or more being top10 teams. R

Half the top15 recruting classes every year are SEC teams. Know what that makes? It makes 7 or 8 SEC teams whose 4years of recruiting classes average top20. Half the conference. Half the conference is among the 20 most talented rosters in FBS. If you go look at OSU, Mich, ORE, PSU schedules for 2026 and 2027 they only play 2 games per season vs teams that are normally ranked top25. 2 games per year against teams who recruit at or near SEC level. All they have to do to go 10-2 and make the playoffs is beat all the UNRANKED teams on their schedules. Its ridiculous.

The SEC was severely stupid to let the Big10 and TV people talk them into going to a 9game SEC schedule. 10-2 Vandy and 10-2 Ole Miss are already sitting home for the playoffs while teams they would wreck on a neutral field make the tournament. The 9game schedule is only gonna make that worse. So stupid. While the ND, Miami, TT and Tulane play for the title. No way those teams go 10-2 in the SEC. None of them.

Really nice to see a coach who prides himself on fundamentals and has his team ready and disciplined.

I don’t know a single player on that team would would honestly start for us yet they looked light years better. Just very pretty football.

His DC is very good at disguising his defense.

Just beat OSU with a bunch of zero stars.

ND would. I’d take them on a neutral field right now vs. anyone in the SEC except Georgia.

They do play well together. I wonder how long they have been playing together. If their guys were not highly sought after, then they might have a lot of 3 and 4 year guys. We don't. It takes time for teams to gel. I'm not sure we have yet. We have a ton of new guys still learning their positions.

That's one advantage of 2 and 3 star players. You get them for a long time. I suspect that Vandy is also benefiting from this. NIL and the portal just scramble things every year now and the teams that will succeed will be the ones that can manage to field a cohesive team the fastest.

Cignetti may do well in the SEC, but he will have to handle all the disruption. I don't think he has had to face that yet.
Well, let's be honest. Not every 3 star is created equally. Coming from Sabans staff, Cignetti obviously knows a player when he sees one. Our evals are spotty at best at some positions and that's being generous.

Then there's player development. They're better there as well. No contest. In short, they have the better coaching staff all the way around.

Teams reflect the coach.

Someone asked about age comparison between teams:

- IU has 48 upperclassmen (JR and SR)
- Tennessee has 39, only 14 on offense; we have more maturity on defense but that is where injuries resulted with more underclassmen playing.
- Vandy has 73
- Georgia has 47

I personally think winning is a combination of maturity on the team coupled with luck and lack of critical injuries.

There is no SEC superiority anymore…it was overblown before. He seems like a really good coach. The concept of playing guys based on production and not just potential is something we should learn.
Careful there! I said basically the same thing and it was considered a DIG at our staff, which I considered as facts.

Cignetti's wins at Indiana:

Florida International (4-8)
Western Illinois (FCS)
at UCLA (5-7)
Charlotte (5-7)
Maryland (4-8)
at Northwestern (4-8)
Nebraska (7-6)
Washington (6-7)
at Michigan St (5-7)
Michigan (8-5)
Purdue (1-11)

Old Dominion (6-3)
Kennesaw State (7-2)
Indiana State (FCS)
Illinois (6-3)
at Iowa (6-3)
at Oregon (8-1)
Michigan St (3-6)
UCLA (3-6)
at Maryland (4-5)
at Penn St (3-6)
Wisconsin - Likely (3-6)
Purdue - Likely (2-8)

His Big Ten opponents this season outside of Oregon are 12-37, last season his Big Ten opponents outside of Ohio St were 21-51

cancelled 4 games vs Louisville and Virginia to avoid playing tough OOC opponents for 5 seasons.

You can brag on this smoke and mirrors show, but the playoffs will show once again where he is.

There were also some golden posts leading up to your game with Vandy.

I admire his consistency.

Oh some of his from earlier were bumped where someone said they'd finish 9-3 at worst and he laughed at them.

Like I know everyone has some great hot takes that aged like milk but he seems to be a Hall of Famer in that regard.
