Chucky still loves UT

There are more than a few indicators that he would take the job... especially the last paragraph. I really like CDD and hope he puts this program in overdrive. If not we need to offer CJG for sure.

Jon Gruden Speaks At UT Coaching Clinic

After reading the article, I didn't get the idea that he would be willing to accept the job IF it were to be vacant. That would be a dream come true if it was vacant and he was hired. We would continually get the best QB prospects year in, & year out if he was the head Vol.

You could back the truck up with money neither one of those two would give it a look, not Hollywood enough for either one of those guys, they like the Hollywood seen.

When has Tampa been Hollywood?

If Dooley doesn't work out this year, and Dave Hart doesn't offer Gruden a STARTING OFFER of $5M a year, then Hart should be fired.

Atleast 5 million. He would beast out on the recruiting trail on name alone. I really hope we go all in on the next hire if the present jackhole doesn't pan out.

If he got a good staff (not even great) he'll be Nick Saban in terms of recruiting.

Dear God, it would be wonderful.

I'm pretty sure it's $3M.

Wow, unreal. If I was him, I would stay there. No telling how many hours a week a college coach devotes on recruiting alone. Add in game prep, player development, and film study, and it might not be worth it to a man in his position.

Coaches can't stop. Again, no coach quits. They just can't find a job.

Aka Phil. (not a dig at him) they might not stop Zjc, but ones of his caliber damn sure have a choice on where they wind up at. Gruden is tailor made for the NFL. Although I would LOVE to have him coach our Vols, there is zero chance of it happening. It makes too much sense

Homersim is the mother of disappointment..............Gruden would not even return a phone call from Hart if he called. Get over it people. If UT is such a desirable place of employment, how did we end up with a HC from La Tech with a career losing record?

And if Dooley does work out, will you support a raise to $5M for him?

Gruden would be a tremendous hire for any school or NFL team. That being said as underwhelming as Dooleys teams have been here at Tennessee I expect him to win enough to survive another season. We just might compete for the east.

Gruden would never coach here IMO.. Not sure what "indicators" you're talking about... He was a guest, and he was being nice.

I agree with you. This article is over a month old. I don't think we will be in the market for a new coach after we put up 8+ wins this year.

Hmmm.... take 5 million to coach a college team, make over 10 million at ESPN, or take more than 5 million from about 5 NFL teams camped out beside your door. Which one do you think is the last one option of those?

Where do y'all get Gruden being a great coach from? NFL teams are not beating down his door. He's not working for ESPN for the money. He's fairly young and obviously has a passion for the game and teaching young players, hence why he's working out potential draftees.

If he's as good as everyone makes him out to be he wouldnt have gone 4 years without a coaching gig, or been fired in the first place. His career record is mediocre and his playoff history is pitiful. Take away Gruden's Super Bowl season and Gruden won 1 playoff game. The Bucs were annual contenders under Dungy and Gruden happened to be at the helm when they finally broke through, much like Miami and Larry Coker. We all know Butch Davis was responsible for that championship.

Gruden has a name and would probably help attract recruits but beyond that I'm not sure I have confidence in him leading a team on game day.

Yeah I was wrong, it is in the 6-7 range. For some reason I was thinking 8.3 million he got for MNF, but it was 4.3. And I disagree with you about him considering job, but it's fine to think otherwise. I don't see him turning down a job like the Cowboys (if they fail this year), Giants (if Couglin retires), Bears, or any other respectable NFL job if he was itching to get back. But I sure as hell would love to eat crow on this.

Where do you get your numbers from? ESPN doesn't just publish the salaries for their talking heads. This smacks of total hearsay to me...

Sure shoot him a text with a number, but I would hope that Hart had some realistic options that he would consider if Dooley failed this year. The last thing we need is this huge story coming out that Gruden is coming to Knoxville only for it to fizzle just like the Miami thing did, and then you are more than likely faced with settling for a coach. If Dooley were to fail this year, the closest thing to a slam dunk hire would be if/when Pete Carroll gets fired. That would be realistic.

The problem with this post is you're assuming that Dave Hart is going to handle it like Mike Hamilton did. He's not. If there's a search for a new head coach next season, I highly doubt it will be a public one after the embarrassment we suffered last time when everyone and their brother turned us down.
