One of the top 5 RB's in our history

Top 5? Saying that he is one of UT's top 5 rb's ever is the same as saying that Michael Jordan is one of the top 5 NBA players all time. Chuck Webb is the best rb in Tennessee history in my opinion.

Come on. Bo Jackson was the better runner. Herschel was just big, strong and fast as a cat. Bo was, big, strong, fast, shifty and quick to boot. CWebb, was decent sized, fast and quick as hell, but he wasn't running over people like Walker or Jackson.

Chuck Webb didn't need to run over people. Some believe Barry Sanders to be the greatest rb in NFL history (my pick is Walter Payton) but he didn't make a living running over anyone. My top three rb's in SEC history would be 1. Bo Jackson 2. Herschel Walker 3. Chuck Webb.

I have never seen Walker take himself out of a game because he was getting brutalized by the opponents defense. I have, on the other hand, seen Bo Jackson take himself out of a game against Tennessee when he was getting the hell beat out of him.

That is true, also.

I was at the game where he got hurt. As a kid I had never been to a game my uncle took me we were sitting right at the yard marker that he was injured. I never knew it was the Pacific game just remembered it as the game Chuck got hurt. Needless to say it took me many years as a kid to believe that it wasn't my fault for being at the game :)

I've heard that Webb once said that he would never be carried off the field. Perhaps that's the reason that when the injury occurred, few fans believed it to be serious. Also, Webb was injured the night that i met my future wife.

Chuck Webb is living here in Toledo,OH. I seen him this past fall at a high school football game where his nephew Jodi Webb plays. His nephew is a good player and he plays with a kid named Chris Wormley who will be a senior next season. Wormley already has a ton of offers from a lot of Big 10 schools including Ohio State. I know him and he is a great kid. He is 6'5" and like 250 pounds:loco: and plays DE. I wish he could get invited to junior day and wear Tennessee orange next year. V.F.L. here in Ohio and GBO!!:loco:

I remember when the tandem of reggie cobb and chuck webb were tearing it up. If I remember correctly. SI had them on the cover as cobb webb. we played bama and no back had rushed for over 50 yards in like 19 games against them. that game they combined for over 350 yards. great vol's

I don't recall that they were on the cover of SI.

Could be wrong.

what could have been that year if he had not gotten hurt. Very good chance Tennessee plays for the split NC at least.

I just looked over the schedule for that season, and I think I agree with you. I had forgotten how much that tie with Auburn felt like a loss.

I liked Chuck Webb but in my opinion Reggie Cobb and Charlie Garner were better.

The most amazing run in Neyland in my lifetime by a running back was Reggie's run against Duke. I did not see Condrege run against GT in person but the video was outstanding.

Chuck was a guy yu never knew where his mind was. You talk to him and he might answer or he might just keep staring straight ahead. You were not sure if he heard you or not.

This.

I was on the team with him....and he was just an odd bird.

Webb was better than either of the two. However, Garner was great.

Cobb was suspended and did not play alongside Webb when the Vols faced Bama. On the first play of scrimmage Webb did run over a Bama linebacker that had talked all week about how Bama would stop Webb. Anyway, Bama won the game 47-30, i believe.
