Chuck Smith is out as DL Coach

If I had to go out on a limb and say why he left it would be because Smith popped Wilcox right in the money maker during a coaches meeting a few months back.

Interesting. Why did this not come out then? (or did I miss it?)

Define: money maker

The face. Thats one of the reasons why they didn't like each other.

Check that. Money maker has a differnt meaning for me. About what time of the year was this. I seem to recall Wilcox having a jacked up lip and thought he had a helluva cold sore.

This explains why Gabe Wright and others may have shunned UT on NSD. Maybe they knew this was going to happen. If the rumors are true that he and Wilcox did not get along, then this is a good move for UT. Personally, I think CS could have been the next Rodney Gardner if he stayed with UT.

Sometime in October or early November.

Will believe it when eric speaks with Dooley and confirms, or when Rex copies and pastes it from TOS. Until then, rumor, imo.

+1. I need to hear it from one of those credible sources...

Yup.

And for those that don't know yet, this is an upgrade. :hi:

No disrespect intended but in what context are we speaking? I read on many occasions that recruits loved CCS and his fire/passion. Can't really question his abilility to coach the DL, right? This is intended to get a point of view from someone I respect and would help me understand this statement better. :peace2:

why did dooley fire smith? what went down?

You can't question his ability to coach technique, but I don't think he had any experience with game planning before this year.

Sarcasm....right?

Fire and passion are great. But he actually can't coach from an Xs and Os standpoint. He doesn't know schemes or philosophy. He can teach technique but not an entire d line unit.

Recruits loved him because of who he was. Current players didn't like him because they were learning nothing.

The d line operated alone all year. Never part of the entire defense. Wilcox had enough and later in the season Thompson started to get involved as much as he could which wasn't a lot.

Sirmom already is a better fundamentals and scheme coach than smith.

Thompson is a great DL coach and Sirmon won't miss a beat with the LBs.

And expect thompson to sign some studs on the DL.
