Chuck Smith and Recruiting

1. The line of scrimmage is the-single-most-important position on the field! With the defense being the more important of the two sides, you can't just put any coach in charge of it.

The line of scrimmage is not a position, and neither side of the ball is more important than the other.

Chuck Smith was, is, and always will be a great University of Tennessee Volunteer for life.

That said, there were some issues that caused rife with the coaching staff. We all are hearing about the stir with defensive coaching staff. How many have heard of issues that the staff had with him on the recruiting trail?

What I have been told is that we almost lost a couple of our recruits because of CCS, who eventually signed with the Vols, but only after Derek Dooley stepped in and saved the sale. I am also hearing that we did not land one recruit because the mother did not approve of him, even though the kid thought he walked on water.

There is always at least two sides to a story.

I remember reading a mediocre recruiting article by Gene Wojo that had anonymous quotes from recruits. One of the recruits said he was completely turned off of a school because a coach came into his home waving around an NFC Championship ring and talking about all the NFL players he cold put him in touch with. Be willing to bet that was CCS.

well, which is it? do we have d-line talent or not?

CS was basically releaved of his coaching duties after the LSU fiasco......CLT took over coaching the D-Line and they improved greatly, even with DEs playing the position
CS will not be missed.

Link me to the source. "Basically" I don't believe this line of crap. I know I know insider I know someone who has a brother that told me Ferris was dying....................................BS

See the above.

Its like the National Enquirer around here. He was also spotted at IHOP with Elvis. Elvis was going to sign but was turned off by the limited amount of breakfast credit that CCS could provide. I heard that from someone close to the program through my brother and his pet monkey.

Coach Smith obviously feels disrespected by the UT staff. Of course I don't know Chuck the person, I only know Chuck the good D-line coach and great recruiter.

The funny part is how bad this makes UT look in the eyes of the rest of the country. I see how the staff and fans quickly started separating themselves from Coach Smith. Nice try but Coach Smith made UT in general look really bad, I wonder if that was his true intention.

How did chuck smith's Charlie Sheen impersonation make UT look bad? I think he made Dooley look like a genius for getting rid of him.

than one at a time, the fact he'd never been in home in recruiting and probably dooley sought out or was sought out by thompson and joseph when the internal problems on defense and implementing a game plan began and dooley had coached with thompson and brought joseph. He is a vfl and I feel for the man but dooley should have hired someone with experience. Dooley got the news and right after recruiting
dismissed him. He just wasn't ready for the job atis time. I have the same questions on sirmon. I thought we'd make a run at garner
or go get tosh lapoi who wilcox wanted, him or sirmon. TN isn't the place to learn how to coach imo and it caused hurt and strife. JMO but I would have asked smith to be a ga for a yr or two.

Maybe for the population between Knoxville and Athens, but up here in Pa it was hard to get even Google to find a link to the presser. Just saying that the ranting of an assistant coach doesn't reverberate as far as some may think.
