Analyst: New Vols QB Keller Chryst a 'dink-and-dunk' guy

“He’s a dink-and-dunk guy,” Detillier said during an interview with former Vols wide receiver Jayson Swain on The Swain Event, a daily radio show broadcast from Knoxville.

Detillier — who watched Chryst play at Stanford and saw him up close and personal two years ago at the annual Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana

Based on what he’s seen from both players — you can read his thoughts on Guarantano HERE — he said confidently that he believes Guarantano will start but both will play at some point during the season.

“Oh, Guarantano’s gonna start,” Detillier said. “I think he’s the guy that’s gonna end up starting. Now you may play two quarterbacks there, because you look at that schedule, there may be a point where you’re gonna play two of them. I think at Tennessee, Guarantano’s gonna be the guy, but you’re probably gonna see two quarterbacks during the season playing.”

Sounds right for a qb who has never averaged over 6.7 ypa or 56.6% passing.

Stanford is a run first team with an awesome running back. Swing passes and screens. Those linemen are dump trucks! Why throw downfield if you play smash mouth.

I know people are going to disagree with this but Chryst’s “highlights” didn’t really make me think he’s a good qb and highlights are supposed to make you think someone’s phenomenal even though you need to see the rest of the tape to get an accurate read on how good a player is

He wouldn’t have been recruited if they thought he couldn’t make all the throws.

I still think Keller starts game 1

Chryst is a QB who couldn’t hold down the starting job in a league that doesn’t play defense. Not going to take over the job in the league like the SEC where defense is king

He hasn't been a good qb so far in his career. Never above 56.6% passing while throwing a ton of short passes.

Sounds to me like Detillier is throwing our OL under the bus by insinuating that they cannot block well enough to keep our QB healthy. Or am I reading too much into this?

I think you can say whatever you want about Chryst the facts are that he has won 11 of 13 games as a QB.

The other fact is he hasn't thrown a single ball for the University of Tennessee in any game type situation.

To just consider him a dink and dunk passer is silly, because he hasn't played in UTs offense.

If Chryst is in our offense he will throw the ball the way Tyson Helton wants him to. (If he doesn't do that he wont start)

Those are the facts.

There’s one where he throws an interception on the goal line. 🤣

The OL has been under the bus for a few years, but this is the tear when they start running with the bus. Things are looking up for the offense.

And Jalen Hurts has won 26 games and lost two. I guess he is the greatest college qb ever. Lets hope Tua wins the job and he transfers here.

You mean won't start. And he won't.

He has proven to be a dink and dunk passer. All the Stanford qbs before and after have higher ypa with the same system and players.

He hasn't beaten a team with a winning record at the end of the year.

He singlehandedly lost the game to San Diego State with his poor performance.
9/20 72 yards 0tds 2ints

Big facts.

If he lost the starters position at Stanford, he will not start at Tennessee unless there are injuries to JG.

I'm not saying he will start, but I will say you don't waste a spot on a Grad Transfer if you don't expect him to start.

Also, I think people need to start watching McBride.... I believe he is being underated for contending for the starting spot. (Pruitt said just as much in the Spring Game stating he was working with a makeshift O-Line and the second string receivers which seemed to effect his game)

Lol, it's funny how you try and belittle people to get a point across.

With your points who has JG beat? I'm waiting.
