Chris Walker on Coleman

Um no, that logic has nothing to do with the pro level (as I've pointed out). And if mind serves me correctly, Leaf was a hell of a college QB. Thus it actually supports my point.

Um, no, your opinon was based on Crompton QB ranking coming out of high school. Someone must have seen something Leaf to make the 2nd overall draft pick. How did that work out?

phi...I underestand and agree about your ability(i.e. arm stregth) argument....but don't you think a QB has to have it "between the ears" before he can take advantage of that?

There's an old saying in sports..."The kid has a million dollar body and a 50 cent brain"....i.e. all the physical ability in the world won't get you anywhere at this level if you don't have the mental side of things down first

Crompton has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that he just doesn't grasp the mental side of things at this level...and it's a shame because he has a very strong arm, a big/strong body, and some decent athleticism....but that has got him exacty nowhere to this point and I don't think he can be turned around in such a short tiime

Oh no I completely agree with what you are saying. I'm talking strictly theoretical. Assuming that Crompton's play this year was an anomaly (and with a new HC coming in with no bias and willing to give a fair shake to everyone you could say that this past year doesn't matter), wouldn't a new coach look to give the more highly regarded and QB with the most potential to make solid throws the first chance? I believe Crompton will not be our QB next year, but I also don't think Coleman gets much of an opportunity in a game situation. Strictly because a new coach coming in is going to see Coleman performing at 100% and think to himself, wow this kid really isn't going to give us what it takes to compete. That's really all im trying to say.

Ok let me try to explain it better. I'm not saying Crompton is good nor will he ever be. What I'm saying is that from a raw potential perspective, Crompton is the far superior QB. If Coleman performs at 100%, let's say that's Crompton's 75%. Now at this point Crompton hasn't performed anywhere near that level, but I'm trying to speak from the perspective of a brand new coach. I think Crompton gets the opportunity next year before Coleman, although he will have to perform much better than this year. And I'm not saying the recruiting rankings are incredibly valid here. As I think certain factors such as media coverage, what area of the country, support at other offensive positions, etc. play a large role in determining these things. I'm strictly stating that for him to be rated that high in his class means that he has the potential to have the complete package. Whether or not someone develops into that is another story.

no way crompton starts next year...he does NOT have the intagibles required on the next level to be a competent QB..i do not believe this quality can be coached into a player...he either has it or he doesn't...It seems that CLK has a good eye for talent. Hope he tells J Crompton he doesn't fit his style of play..and to look elsewhere....

I am not knocking Fulmer, so all the Fulmer fanatics just calm down. If Coleman does ends up the starter next year and lights it up from game 1, how stupid will this make Fulmer look? Will it prove what a lot of people said about him? One of his biggest downfalls was his loyalty to upperclassmen?

Since, by all accounts, we won't end up with a legitimate QB prospect, I have to assume that Kiffin has looked at our in-house QB's, and thinks he sees something...

The question is, who?

IMO, Stephens, Coleman, and Crompton. In that order.

JMO.

Go Vols.

Even if CLK thinks he can get good play out of one of our current QB's, I still think he believes he has a QB he wants leaning our way in recruiting.

Mark my words and save them for later. Coleman will NEVER be a solid SEC QB. Despite Crompton's terrible performance this year, in Kiffin's mind he is still the better option. There is something that got Crompton ranked 2nd QB in his recruiting class, and he has buttloads more potential than Coleman. While I think Stephens is ultimately the best option, I believe Kiffin will give Crompton a shot in his offense. But I promise you that Coleman will not be our starter next year.

For some reason i feel the same way =:)cray:

Excuse me?

On the rivals board there is alot of speculation that the great pro-style QB prospect currently committed to Cal called up Kiffin and said he's interested in UT. That would be huge for us! If not, my bet's on Stephens to start next year.

I watched Coleman since the sixth grade at McCallie. He had a stellar career in the toughest division in the state. Ask the boys at Riverdale if he can lead under pressure and fling a ball half a mile.

Coleman will start next year. Hopefully spring practice and a strong QB coach will bring out his abilities. If Cutcliffe thought he was the best QB at UT, then he has talent. Cutcliffe knows a little bit about qb's. He said Crompton was uncoachable and he was right. Crompton sucks.
