Chris Petersen thread (merged)

Well for 1 he is a top 5 coach in the nation and paid top 20 money (and that is after a big raise this year). At Tennessee he could be paid 8 mil and top 4 money.

Another reason if he has a loss at Washington he still has to hope..... If he has 2 he has no chance at a playoff. At Tennessee if he lost one game and won the champ he would be in no question. If he lost 2 but won the champ he still has a chance.

More money for pay, for staff, for facilities, for recruiting.......for anything. Petersen could recruit better players..... And has the chance to play top teams every year. Also on the national stage you hear more about a down Tennessee than you do a 2 loss Washington.

Sure he has a good gig but he has put in the work and prob wants the best and most he can get.

Not saying he certainly comes to Tennessee but he knows what a Tennessee has to offer and it is a lot more than Washington........also it is only 2 seasons into his good stuff at Washington........ Not like he is against building what he wants..... He started it there just 4 years ago.

I don’t believe that he’d even agree to an interview with Tennessee.

Who cares? He certainly doesn’t seem to. Stayed at Boise State forever until the one job he wanted, the one job he would actually leave for opened up. He’s a west Coast guy who currently has a much better situation than the mess and crap he’s have to deal with in Knoxville. He won’t even entertain an interview with Tennessee imo.

Petersen's reps reached out to Tennessee. He stayed at Boise due to health issues if one of his kids.

Petersen signed a contract extension in August that extends till 2023. His buyout remains unaffected.
Petersen is still in play.

And that kid still had the health issue 4 years ago when he decided to move from Boise State to Washington, which was the destination job he wanted.

IF his people really did reach out to Tennessee, which I doubt they did, it likely wasn’t due to serious interest in the Vols job....probably time to get everybody a raise.

I have a feeling news will start to leak out tomorrow night about an hour after the game ends. The team will likely be told who the new coach is and they’ll all be too excited to be quite.

I’m still not positive who it is be by all accounts we’ve come to an agreement with someone.

I’m a Petersen lean at the moment

Can you humor me with a reason?

I want to steal a coach from another SEC school. He has proven he can win in the SEC, whereas Peterson hasn’t (though he has a better record than Chip Kelly in that regard). Maybe most importantly though, our new coach needs to have recruiting connections here in the south. Peterson will have none of them.

If it's Mullen then we will hear of transfers

Fair enough. But recruits are not in a bubble they will know or quickly learn who he is. Winners want to play for winners and CCP is most definitely a winner

I’m a poor contractor who happens to know a couple of people with a lot of money. Lol
I’ve kept my mouth shut for the most part this time because they were so wrong about everything last time.

Have a feeling you're underselling your contractor prowess but I can appreciate humility. Petersen isn't an over popular rumor so I'm hoping they got it right this time.

I heard on the radio he may have some interest and may have been contacted. If so he definitely moves to number 1 on the coaching list. Lets hope he is tired of the West Coast and lack of publicity.

May have been? Should have been one of the first guys called the day Butch was fired.

Saban and Meyer hadn't proved they could win in the SEC when they went to LSU and Florida. I am wondering if this news about Austin Thomas coming back to UT is important. Others thought he would be there for Gruden to run compliance and other college-related affairs that Gruden would have trouble with, but I wonder if it means that that he could act as a bridge for someone from outside the region who doesn't know the territory, like Petersen.
