Chris Petersen thread (merged)

Except recruiting

eh, i get why one would have this reaction give the difference in regions.

but, i think he's one of those coaches that can over come it....there are coaches that do worry me on the recruiting front.

Petersen is not one of them.

Then how do you know that one is more realistic than the other?

IMO Gruden is not, and has never been a realistic candidate.

Petersen is a college coach that is not exactly enamored with his situation. We could double his salary and exposure.

Gruden would damn near take a paycut to do more work.

Its all just opinion. I have no inside knowledge of the search.

Petersen is no doubt my 1b. The guy just wins everywhere he goes. I don’t see recruiting being a problem if butch and Dooley can get top 15 classes then I’m sure a proven winner can too.

In my opinion he is the best hire TENN could make. His children are getting older, and now he can work on making the money. In perspective to other top notch coaches, he has not made the money throughout his career that is deserving of a playoff capable coach. Has shown the ability to be a big winner at multiple stops. Develops talent and has recruited well in the NW competing against Oregon and USCw. Don't know a lot about him personally but seems to have the personality to fit in Knoxville.

Interesting that we apparently tried to get him in 2012 and he rejected us, but by 2013 he felt it was time to move.

After the 2013 season, Washington offered Petersen its head coaching job. He had rebuffed Southern Cal and Tennessee and many others. He felt challenged maintaining success at Boise, but after eight years as the head coach, it had begun to feel the same.

“I felt in my heart, this is time,” Petersen said. “I need some more growth. And to really be challenged. That’s what happened. You come here, and it’s completely different. Extremely challenging. And hard. And frustrating.”

If Petersen has legitimate interest, then I say

He is a walk off grand slam hire that is the only candidate I would put over Gruden. One of my favorite coaches. JAV did say we had some contact with him. Perhaps he wants to be at a pace that takes football more seriously

How is he a homerun hire but Patterson and Kiffin are not

If past history is indicative of future performance, Peterson may very well be the best candidate in the conversation. I'm all in for this one. Yes. Even over (way over) Gruden!

How is he a homerun hire but Patterson and Kiffin are not

Is this real life? Do actual living, breathing humans believe that Lane Marie Kiffin is on the same level as Chris Petersen and Gary Patterson?
I have no words for this argument. I am truly baffled.

Forgot about that. He has taken the conference to task for not pushing back against TV deals/ midnight kickoffs

These excerpts taken from an Associated Press/ESPN article on Oct. 2, 2017:

SEATTLE -- Chris Petersen felt the need to apologize Monday for something completely out of his control.

The Washington coach is tired of seeing the sixth-ranked Huskies stuck with less than optimal kickoff times -- both because it affects fans and reduces exposure for the program.

[...]

Petersen doesn't believe the conference is interested in having input from the coaches on game times.

"I don't think they even kind of care about my voice, or probably any of the coaches' voices," Petersen said. "I don't think there is one coach out there, or probably school, in the West that wants to play our games at late night and all of that. Everyone wants to play in the daytime."

Petersen might not get much relief as the season goes on. Washington's game at Stanford on Nov. 10 is already set for a 7:30 p.m. start. The Huskies also have marquee home games against UCLA, Oregon, Utah and rival Washington State to close out the regular season, all of which could have significance in the conference race and College Football Playoff discussion.

"I don't think we're going to play any early games. We're not counting on it," Petersen said. "That is how it goes in our league."

Patterson is definitely better than Petersen. But Kiffin? In no way form or fashion does he belong in a conversation that involves Patterson and Petersen.

Not definitely better than Petersen whose team was in CFP last year, somewhere Patterson has never been.

I have been drinking the Chris Petersen Kool-Aid since the 06 Fiesta Bowl...

Dude's about as legit as they come anymore. IMO I'd put him second behind Saban on my big board, and honestly, if Pete were at a powerhouse like Alabama, I'm not sure he wouldn't be just as successful as ole Darth himself.

He develops players like no other coach...his Boise teams put a lot of 2*/3* kids into the NFL and a lot of them are still playing.

That Fiesta bowl was probably one of the greatest games I’ve ever watched. Definitely the most entertaining

i get why people want Patterson, but he's been at TCU a long time. you think he could really recreate that here...now? 10 years ago, i was all in, my #1 guy. didn't they build a statue of him out there already?

anyway, would be a huge hire, splash hire, agree with all that. just not sure it's really the right move for us, or him, at this stage in his career.

of the two, i would exhaust every option on Petersen....if you could lure him away....whew....now that'd be something. i'd of given less chance of that, than gruden tbh.
