Chris Petersen thread (merged)

Peterson would be a bad cultural fit in East Tennessee. His wife will never go for it.

Other than being a college football coach, only thing he has in common with us is ESPN hates him.

Wow, what an incredibly lazy response and short-sighted way of thinking.

Youre not seriously saying you think Jones is a better coach than Fuente, are you?

Believe it or not, this same argument has been used against Butch by saying he lost to Dooley.

Go read that Washington State message board thread someone posted earlier. Guy seemed to think Petersen was a much better cultural fit in red state Boise than he is in liberal Seattle (and ultra-liberal UW). Was talking about Petersen jumping to Nebraska. I have no idea about him, but apparently the idea that he’s “a Seattle guy” isn’t a given.

And you know this how? Do you know his wife personally? Have you ever been to the bright lights of Boise, Idaho before?

I would be so happy, it wouldn't be funny. I've pretty much given up on the Gruden hire, but Petersen would be a grand slam, out of the park hire. Would be so unexpected and make so many people mad over on the Northwest, but think about the exposure he'd get. Top notch facilities, everyone is always clamoring that the SEC is the best conference and we forget about the Pac-12 because of the lack of prettiness the conference brings. Obviously this is just a rumor, but I would be really happy.

You should have given up in the Gruden hire a long time ago, like as soon as it started

No it wasn't

If you actually watched the game in 2011 , yes it was.

Butch's game management issues were obvious.

Went for 2 fourth down conversions and failed giving Tennessee huge swings in momentum.

Butch is a terrible gameday coach- Dooley was better on the sideline. And Dooley was bad on the sideline.

They were both horrible. Ultimately you are what your record says you are and Jones > Dooley.

Maybe by themselves alone but Gruden’s entire staff would put Petersen’s to shame and would run circles around Petersen on the recruiting trail.

Therefore, Gruden > Petersen

How does Gruden’s current staff stack up against Petersen’s current staff? That’s a decent starting point to compare.

Oh that’s right. He hasn’t had one in EIGHT DAMN YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't lie. Gruden would really get me pumped. However, he is a huge risk. Does he have the fire to out work and out recruit the elite coaches in college? I don't know. Does his style translate? Will coaching college guys be a difficult change compared to pros? All I'm getting at is he is a risk.

Petersen is a proven college coach. He gets it done. I'd be happy with either, but if I got to make the choice, it's Petersen every time.
