The power of Vol Twitter and social media can move mountains. Petersen stepped down into an admin role at Washington. The word retire was never mentioned. Fulmer needs to go after this man hard. If UW can get him and Virginia can get Mendenhall there’s no reason we can’t get this caliber of a coach. We can push the issue... !!

Dude rejected several top-tier jobs while at Boise State. Only left to take the job at Washington (which isn't even necessarily top-tier).

In his entire lifetime, he's only left the Pacific Northwest for 1 year and that was for 1 year as a QB Coach at Pitt. And he left Pitt for a lesser job at Portland State.

Clearly wants to stay in Pacific Northwest the rest of his life. Doubt he ever coaches again anyway. He made his money and now wants to enjoy life. But unless you can relocate Knoxville to Cascadia, it's never happening.

Not that it matters, because we already have a coach. Pruitt isn't going anywhere for at least another year.

This. Discussing other coaches right now is a huge waste of time IMO.

Chris Petersen will never be the HBC at Tennessee. Never.

Bronco Mendenhall is 27-31 at Virginia with his best season being 9-5.

You might as well make a thread telling Santa what you want for Christmas.

Pretty sure a lot of the reason he is where he is is because of the health of his child. IIRC, all of his child's doctors are in that area.
His kid is actually better, I think. Pretty sure I read a recent story that eluded to that but in the same story he said he had no desire to coach anymore and just wanted to be a family man.

UT simply can't do this. This is the PERFECT season to make a move. Because of covid and lost revenues, many won't have the money or inclination to make a move. This will certainly impact sexton's leverage in negotiations. Next year any team contemplating change will be calling Freeze. UT can't make the same mistake twice and see Freeze end up at Auburn or LSU...even worse SC. Freeze is the perfect fit for UT at this time. No more fingers crossed/hope hires. We need a sure thing. A known talent. Freeze is pretty close to as good as it gets.

Punt Fulmer and get Davis/Blackburn in here. Then bring in Freeze and I suspect UT will quite rapidly make a drastic move on the football field. My word, look at the money we've lost in bowl revenue by ending up in these lower tier bowls...if we actually get bowl eligible. Hiring Freeze is an investment...almost like a blue chip stock. How do you pass him up? UT needs to go bold, go big. Hire Hugh Freeze.

He took an administrative position when hw could get one. He knew his coaching days were over, and he simply took a job when it was ordered. If we can't upgrade with a young coach who is already established himself as a winning head coach, stay with th potential we have with Pruitt. He will be a big winner coach in the future and we are would be stupid to let him go somewhere else and come back and beat us. Everyone knew our programs at the lowest level of talent it has been in over 50 years. Starting over every every 4 years will never get us where we want to be. We have tried starting over 5 times since Fulmer was fired and we are in position to seen result in the near future with Pruitt. Don't forget, COVID-19 has prevented our 2020 Freshman class from being able to contribute. In reality, football should never have been played this year. Even the NCAA knows this is a throw-away season. Neither you, I, Fulmer, or Pruitt can control what the VIRUS has done to our World and the 2021 season is likely to be worse than 2020. Ranting and raving will do nothing but raise our blood pressures and reflect the low IQs of our posters.

Urban Meyer is human garbage...but he is a great coach. UT would be back in less than 3 seasons.
You hire someone based on their ability to do get the job done, not because they have a wonderful, get along with everyone, personality. Too many people couldn't seem to figure that one out recently.......

I’d at least find out! We’d be crazy not to ask.
He’s a West coast guy. If he ever returns to coaching, which I doubt, it’ll be in the pac 12 again. Of the 33 years he’s been in coaching, he’s only spent one year east of Boise.

He isn’t coming out of retirement in the middle of a pandemic, to come coach at a school that’s been a mess for a decade, in a part of the country he’s never lived, for an AD and University President that may not be here much longer.

Tennessee is almost $50,000,000.00 in debt
Grin and bear the coaching situation as the Vols replace Vandy in the cellar of the SEC

Doesn’t want it, if he wants to be coaching he would be!
Fulmer needs to be fired before the next coach is even considered. You want to move on from CJP because he has for 3 years underperformed and looks lost,
So the guy that hired him , and also idiotically gave him a raise and extension while he was underperforming should be considered a failure as AD.
