I didn't mean it that way. Plenty of people would jump at the chance to get a job at Tennessee.
What I meant was, he has a good job at Washington and has built something that looks pretty good.
If we were to (for sake of discussion) say he had no problems leaving the West Coast, why would he leave his current job?
I assume Washington will pay him what any other school would offer. Maybe, they wouldn't. But, I think they would.
He's got a really good thing going. His family has probably settled in and is making or has made friends.
There is no motivation to leave.....for anywhere....not just Tennessee.
We all have these dreams of poaching "can't miss" coaches, but most all schools end up failing.
Part of the reason LSU is in the mess they are in is they thought they could poach Jimbo Fisher and it didn't happen.
In connection with my last post, the narrative that "Tennessee hires on the cheap" is a false narrative, IMO.
Most highly paid coaches that are "can't miss" are happy where they are at. They aren't leaving.
So, you have to go and take a chance on a hot shot coordinator or a head coach at a smaller school.
And the market value for those guys is cheaper.
The exception to this is the hot shot head coach at a small school that EVERYBODY wants. Tom Herman when he was at Houston. James Franklin at Vandy. Urban Meyer at Utah.
Then, those guys cost a lot of dough. But, again, those hot shot perceived "can't miss" small school guys are rare. The timing has to be good (firing your coach when they are available) and outbidding everyone else.
Another reason LSU screwed up. They lost Herman to Texas. Everyone wanted Herman. Only one school is going to get him.
So, the likelihood is that Tennessee ends up with a 1st time head coach or the head coach from Western Kentucky and it's a roll of the dice
Just an FYI - the main reason he even took the Washington gig is because his son was in the hospital 2-3 times a week. The only dr that could help was in...Washington.
Just an FYI- none of this is true. Petersen's youngest son had a brain tumor removed when he was 13 months old in 1999. He is fine now.
Thank you for stating that. That's very good non fake news.
It's actually ironic that another Scientologists son, that of John Travolta and Kirsten Alley, who were in those movies together about the babies that were taken from the car dealer in Arizona, Wait, lost my train 🚂 of thinking.
