During his tenure at the Broncos’ helm, Petersen has guided Boise State to a 23-3 record and a pair of bowl games – the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl following the 2006 season and the Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl following the 2007 campaign. Under the 43-year-old Petersen, Boise State has compiled a 15-1 record in Western Athletic Conference play, with a league championship in 2006 and a runner-up finish in ’07. Considered one of the most innovative offensive minds in the college coaching ranks, Petersen has guided an offense that continues to be among the nation’s best. At the end of the 2007 season, Boise State ranked fourth in scoring offense (42.38 points per game), sixth in passing efficiency (152.93), 12th in total offense (467.38 yards per game), 23rd in passing offense (282.46), and 33rd in rushing offense (184.92). The Broncos’ defense was nearly as good in 2007. BSU’s defensive squad was ranked 25th nationally in scoring defense (21.62 ppg), 25th in total defense (338 ypg), 35th in rushing defense (130.85 ypg), 24th in pass efficiency defense (113.42), and 26th in pass defense (207.15 ypg). Furthermore, the Broncos’ special teams were 22nd in punt returns (12.25 yards per return), 20th in net punting (37.31 yards per punt), 10th in kickoff returns (24.65 yards per return) and blocked 11 kicks in ’07.

Dont know if these stats have been posted, but I just think we need to grab this guy up before it's too late. He is only 43yrs old. 20 -30yrs left to coach. What do you guys think?

I like Peterson A LOT, however there are people on this board for some reason that do not like him, Which just baffles me as Boise St is one of the most enjoyable teams to watch this season...That offense is just amazing to watch and They have an excellent defense as well...I believe He could really step it up in the SEC as He is recruiting kids to play in IDAHO for gods sake...Top players would love to play for him at UT as He is not selfish with the ball, He spreads it all over the field...But people here are on the kiffin, muschamp unproven coach bandwagon so attempting to talk sense about a GOOD coach like Peterson won't go very far.

i like peterson as well, i think if they replace fulmer or he retires, we need a young fiery coach to get the fan base back in the game.

Winning will get the fan base fired up no matter who the coach is. Boise St. is not exactly in a high powered conferecne. You could have said the say the same thing about Urban M. at Florida too. But then again, it is a whole lot easier to recruit at Florida than at Tennessee.

Some think he is winning with someone else's talent, but as the OC at Boise State for five years before he became HC, I think he would have some say what kids he gets on offense. Look at the game last night, 33-16 QB Kellen Moore was 26-of-40 for 245 yards with 2 touchdown passes. First Downs 28-9. The Broncos had 19 more first downs and a 394-207 total yards advantage. You can't tell me this wont win games in the SEC.

I'm not saying he cannot win. But the competition in this league is stiff among our biggest rivals. I don't want to go through 2 or 3 coaches before we start winning again. If this guy would turn out to be another Urban... nice.

Great thing about Peterson is, He's young and would do it long term...He would certainly bring a lot of excitement back to UT

Thats what I'm trying to say. All D1 conferecnes are put togather by talent that each team receives. Thats why UT isn't in C-USA or the Sun Belt. This guy gets the same talent that the rest of the WAC gets, but the difference is he progresses he's talent. And that, my friends, will win you games in the SEC. That is the difference between Zook and Meyer.

I hope it dosen't take 2 or 3 coaches to get it right.

This has nothing to do with the topic but do you really need that avatar...it makes my stomach hurt thinking that he is an injury away from being under center..so sad.:sick:

I'm not saying he would be a bad coach for sure, but I am saying that with the exception of three plays in the Fiesta Bowl, almost no one would even be considering him at all.

Obviously You have only seen ONE Boise St football game :eek:lol: The guy is an offensive genius

Well first off, He was Dan Hawkins offensive coordinator, Which means He pretty much WAS the coach of the offense...He called the plays all those years and recruited a lot of the players on Hawkins team...Hawkins has not done ANYTHING since while Peterson continues to whip everybodies butts...Did You watch the game last night?...Tell me you wouldn't like that at UT...If not then I question exactly what You would want in a coach because it doesn't get a lot better than that...Seriously...Only other one I even consider is Butch Davis

By your logic, it must have been Coker who was responsible for Butch Davis' success at Miami. After all, Coker was the OC Davis' last years when Miami got really good, and Coker was the one who had immediate success after Davis left.

Urban Meyer turned around two different teams very rapidly. Peterson's accomplishment can't compare
