Pruitt is not gonna be back. They have already wounded him as far as recruiting and attracting assistants. No way he comes back after this.I think the investigation that started with one instance of impermissible contacts and benefits involving one staff member has started to uncover other instances of that staff member at best living in the gray area, at worst being a blatant rule-breaker.
Will Pruitt ultimately fall because of the actions of one of his staff members? I still don't believe so, but we're starting to get into the territory of how good does next season have to be to keep him and that is becoming an ever steeper hill to climb.
Fulmer had every intention of bringing Pruitt back next year. The investigation threw a monkey wrench in his plans and now it’s above him.It depends on what you re using the investigation for.
If you are gonna keep Pruitt without the investigation turning up something bad against him then yes, you dont say he's staying before you know thats true. And you dont fire him without knowing, if you are retaining him otherwise.
If you want to fire based off his performance you dont need the investigation results to do that. From the way this has played out either UT is willing for this turn into a national story (which you dont want) to save some buyout $ or there isnt enough support to fire him based on his record alone.
With this dragging out Freeze might actually be our best option that would take it. If you’re Herman or Gus would you want to take on this heat after leaving previous similar heat?First call should be to Freeze, though I doubt that happens, even after Fulmer is ushered out with Pruitt. Think Herman would do well here And he would be next on the list.
Firing Fulmer was a massive mistake. We're on the same page there.
1 mediocre season should save someone's job? For me, it's not the record. That is short-sighted. It's all the other things that have added up.
- constant changing of staff; more than the average HC
- mismanagement of the roster (JG is obvious but even worse, imo, is not getting young guys on the field this year to gain experience after the year was shot and they have a free eligibility year. That experience would have been HUGE. Now we will hear him say the "they're young and don't have experience" excuse.
- outdated offensive philosophy
- micromanaging his staff
- being a massive a-hole to everyone at UT to the point nobody likes him
- not taking Georgia state seriously. Hubbs and Price stated it.
- not taking 2020 seriously and not pushing the team in the off-season because you don't think there will be a season. Thats a big one imo. Covid or not, why do we want a HC who doesn't take every opportunity to try and make his team better? You think any good coach does that? You ALWAYS have to be getting better. Hubbs stated he did this
- not understanding how to scheme to your team. How many times has he stated a variation of "we called these plays at Alabama and they worked".. Guess what Coach, you dont have 5*'s 3 deep at each position, sometimes you have to adjust your play calling to your teams strengths and weaknesses.
I agree with you a competent coach needs time. But, imo, there have been too many things that show he isn't learning and adjusting. He is still making massive blunders in year 3 on basic program mgmt stuff. He is clearly not growing. Juan Jennings willing the team to a nice win streak over teams who had most of their coaches fired doesnt prove anything
There’s a huge gap between “winning big” which I would consider being in the top 3rd of the conference and losing six or so games in a row by double digits.I would argue that what he accomplished last year was far from mediocre when you consider where he brought us from. I'm flat out willing to give him a pass for this year and am totally convinced not doing so will harm this program down the road. Anyone we go after now knows the standard is win big in 3 years or you're out. By the end of year 2 the hounds are nipping at your heels. We can't continue to perpetuate that even if it means having a bad year next year. At some point we have to stop doing the same thing over and over. What we did with the last two short tenures didn't work but now we're talking about doing it again. We should have zero confidence it will work this time.
I hope so. They need to finish this like yesterday and have a new coach announced within 24 hours. We need to know how many players are going to hit the transfer portal so we can make the necessary moves ourselves with the portal and NSD.Pruitt is not gonna be back. They have already wounded him as far as recruiting and attracting assistants. No way he comes back after this.

The Beav is out here catching levels of heat the likes of which I haven't seen since the D4H days.
