Chris Low with ESPN says if Tennessee doesn't win out Butch and team has serious issues.

I think if Tennessee loses to Vandy or Kentucky, Butch could possibly be job hunting.

What say you Volnation? Would Tennessee move on with a loss, or would he be given another year?

What if UT loses both games (Vandy and KY)?

just echoed a lot of what's already been said. nothing really enlightening or earth shattering.

IF he loses to both he should be fired. Probably wouldn't be but should. But I don't think we lose those games.

he won't be, and we do, regardless. and those issues lie with the fact we have a lame duck AD, no chancellor, and we're a full year + away really of any sort of decision maker addressing CBJ in any way shape or form.

i said it earlier this week, but it's like we're in football purgatory.

If the team meeting doesn't fix it, then he has lost this team and needs to go. We still have a shot at the SEC.

Plan E all the way to Tampa.

My personal impression of Butch is that when the inevitable heat gets turned up he may seek greener, more tranquil pastures on his own. We've seen his reaction to the fanbase when he has previously questioned and called out....I don't believe he's one to stay around and listen to the negativity once it gets too loud and persistent. As a coach that makes his sizeable living largely on perception and what he can sell, sticking around too long won't be good for his pitch. He'll skin out before his message can be diminished too much. Add a new AD and President on the horizon, and self preservation may win out.

Hopefully this is pure speculation and it doesn't come to that. I just want to win out.

Only chance in hell Vols see Tampa is at the Outback Bowl. No way in the world is a 3 loss SEC champion that backs into it (how does this team win SEC when beating Ky and Vandy are in question?) going to be in CFP. A 1 or 2 loss SECWest champion, even if they lost in SECCG, would go before a 3 loss champ.

Butch has screwed up this team and season. Even he admitted he gave this team too much slack in preparing for practice, when they would practice, etc. When playing for a championship, you don't let up, you work harder. Competition for championships are tougher than being bowl eligible. That said, he doesn't deserve to be fired. Plus, Tennessee absolutely sucks at hiring people....probably the worst organization I have ever seen. If they have someone remotely qualified, they should be hesitant about firing them cause they can definitely do worse...and have!

He'll get another year because we don't have a damn AD in place yet. You want Hart choosing our next coach?!

They could fire, put Shoop in as acting and go on a hunt after Hart's behind is out of the door. We are talking wild ass hypotheticals in the thread, right?

if that happened, that would go against hte grain of everything he's every said about his culture and overall philosophy....so a) i don't think that will happen b) if it did it would show his true colors.

plus, he's got a great financial motivating factor to stick it out. my skin could get pretty thick for $4 mil/year....

This all day long.

Unless he loses the next 4 firing shouldn't even be on the table.

Get the AD in place and ride it out for another year. Really isn't another option. I want Hart nowhere near another coaching search.

They shouldn't spend a single dime to retain DeBord under a new contract however. My guess is a 1 year deal for him though or they promote Azzani and Sheridan.

If there is any suggestion of raises or extensions for any of the coaches after this mess of a season, I would tell them they are welcome to look elsewhere.

All this being said, Hart probably extends them all another 5 years and ups their buyouts as a going away present.

UT is now the longest he has been a head coach anywhere.

Maybe if Kelly gets fired at ND he can follow him there as well.

You could be right....but the man has a temper, and he's left everywhere else on his own before. We saw his temper last year after the Arky loss....he dressed down the entire fanbase. Luckily things cooled after we started winning, and he loved us again.

My point is he doesn't countenance being questioned, or disagreed with, and seems to be a hot head. Again, the best situation is to win out and put the psychological evaluations behind us....but there is a diminishing number of us that believe that's going to happen long term.

Unless he loses every remaining game on the schedule he'll be back next year.

I think the Florida game bought him 2 years minimum but with a new AD coming in, who knows? They always like to put their fingerprints on the sports programs and they like to have "their" guy. With the coaching carousel we've been through the last decade they just let his contract run out rather than get into another buyout situation. I for one am hoping he rights the ship and wins an SEC Championship in the near future. I believe he can be our coach for a long time. All he has to do is what Les Miles couldn't: adapt.

Another year.

AD search and hiring is priority. No coach changes until new AD in place.

If we don't win out CBJ SHOULD be sent packing but wont. If we already had an AD and Chancellor in place, maybe but no way Hart fires him with 1 more loss.

i agree, and you can tell from his reactions from the GA and FL game that what he says publically is contrary to how he really feels....

and the wall he puts up against the fans and media doesn't help him when things get tough. whether it's intended or not, it's creating and adversarial relationship, and if the only thing that fixes that is winning...well, it's going to be an up and down relationship.

afterall....as we've heard before...love is conditional, and one has to think, as you're basically saying, that goes both ways.
