How about "He's practiced well" or "Jonathan's made alot of progress" or something of that sort? He didn't have to go as deep as he did by any stretch.

I think he's trying to encourage a kid who has had a rough go of it. I personally think its exactly the kind of thing Kiffin should do to restore JC's confidence.

He said he could get drafted. Not remotely a lie. A long way to go? Sure. But why rain on the kid's parade right when you need him to get it together? Coaches should be touting their players.

Just because I think Kiffin has a distinct punk aspect to his demeanor and personality, and just because I dislike him for it, doesn't mean that if I say he did something good in patting his QB on the back that I'm taking that position just to even out my comments.

This is what I was thinking. Vol fans should get behind him and how about we give Crompton a little support at the game! Real fans don't boo there team.

I say we do need to get behind JC this year. You have to give the guy credit for putting up with some of the crap that he has and still be here. Sending death threats to a college football player, regardless of how bad he is, is totally insane! I hope he has a great year and does end up being the comeback player of the year.

JC is going to have a solid season. All the doubters are going to be in for a surprise.

And whoever said Crompton had a bad fall camp and scrimmages doesn't have a clue.

That was me. I guess you missed the part of him not being named a starter until this week - and that came with a caveat.

Uh?? He was named the starter August 24th. That was the beginnng of last week. I don't think he had a bad fall camp. I'd say it was pretty solid and especially so given the injuries we've had at WR and playing freshman.

So a fifth year senior QB who is being touted as draft material isn't the clear starter until August 24 despite his only competition for the job being a reincarnation of Rick Clausen?

His stats were mediocre and watching him in the scrimmages didn't impress.

Hopefully he'll have an awesome year. And as I said, I'll gladly apologize to him and his loyal fan base.

Sometimes a team wins because of the QB, and sometimes a team wins in spite of the QB. I'm afraid we're in the latter situation.
